I took this today from Mangere in South Auckland. The road leads to a privately owned island called Puketutu Island, which used to be a quarry back in the 1950s. Due to it being privately owned, only authorised cars and trucks are allowed onto the island – meaning that I had to turn around at the end of the road.

The island is situated in the Manukau Harbour, directly behind a wastewater plant (the smell isn’t very pleasant around there). Large trucks drive up and down the road, delivering compost and dirt, so I had to be quick as there wasn’t much room off the road to park. The clouds had started to break up due to the strong wind, as seen by the ripply water on the left.

It is in the process of becoming a regional park, so everybody will eventually be able to enjoy it. There is a large homestead on the island, which caters for weddings, cocktail functions, themed events, conferences and product launches. I hope to check it out someday as I’m sure the island is packed full of photo opportunities.

hi Scott looks like the type of road i usually end up on when i make a wrong turn you have realy caught the atmosphere in the weather with a grt sky hope thats not your tyre marks on the left hand side tfs
regards bryan

Salut Scott.
L’effet HDR est ici parfaitement bien contrôlé dans les nuages est donne a l’ensemble un belle aspect en relief.
Une bonne réussite de prise de vue avec cette route qui nous amène au cœur de l’action.
Bonne journée.

Hi Scott

Textbook use of diminshing linear perspective & vanishing point here. Excellent pp work with the desaturation of the clouds, with superb sharpness & colour. Tfs! Have a great weekend!

Hello Scott! Perfect wide and long perspective, wonderful landscape, amazing open space. Good capture. Mysterious clouds. Superb effect. Good luck!

Hi Scott
A very decent composition. Loved how the road leads inn from the bottom right and takes to the center of the frame.

The HDR treatment helped to show the hidden details, the griany texture of road looks great!
The wheel prints on the ground could be clones out???

Nicely done mate

hi scott
marvelous sky great texture, very sombre moody image, love the road from the side running right up to centre.

Hi Scott,

The sky is great and I like the parallel lines of the water the verge and the road all nicely leading the eye into the shot. The colours are very good nice sharp details pov is good well done.

Hey Scott,
A classic composition with good lead-in from the road. There is good details and sharpness. Looks great, glad that you did not over-pp this one - the clouds look terrific. Regards.

hi dear scott
very beautiful shot.excellent pov. you are proffesional in HDR. do you use photo shop to merg the hdr shots?
sky seem to be B&W in this shot, is it an added effect?
tfs peiman

Hi Scott,
Well processed picture, nice POV on the road, canal and sky, the drama is well seen... Fine sharpness, saturation adn good levels. TFS!

That perspective rocks :-) My eyes are sucked into the distance. Lovely, threatening sky. I like the crispy road and the tyre marks, nice details.

Nice work :)

So even though this is very dark and brooding, its still very eyecatching. It's your perspective, looking down the white line of the road, I guess.
Is the top half of the shot desaturated, or were the clouds that dark and looming? Looks like a gloomy day. Nice one Scott ..
Hope you're having a nice weekend.

mangigique iamge, quelle perspecrive, cette belle route avec deux plans d'eaud e chaque côté, ce ciel lourd grandiose.

bravo et maitié

Hi Scott,
It almost looks like a desaturated HD image. Like the low brightness here, a bit weird mood created by the grey clouds. Anyway a nice picture with a special perspective.

Hi Scott,
Very beautiful POV and perspective.Nice HDR shot.TFS.

Hi Scott,

Your POV captures the convergence of lines very well. The clouds are pretty dramatic and I can't help but get the feeling of "forbidden fruit" here. That being said, your photo does its job well, delivering the haves/have nots frustration.

Have a great Sunday.

Hi Scott,
a good choice of PoV to capture the diverging lines, the white line gives a good contrast to the gray sky, also like the detail of the tyre marks

hi Scott,
this feeling of terrible sky and awful depth of the road is very unrealistic.
this space looks like very wide and wild field in our deep mind...
maybe above this cloud, there is no blue sky but orange sky even in daytime.
not only dead end but also dead land, the light has different spectrum there...
thank you,

Hi Scott

very nice capture I like the way you have used you hdr on this shot
it has brought out your clouds well done Scott .

Could be the perfect setting for some end of a tragic movie Scott, all the ingrdients are there, even the sky,it looks perfect.

Hello Scott,

You have a good eye for pov and composition.
This is a fine shot, demonstrating your obvious, natural skills.
I am beginning to worry a little about HDR in that it produces colours which are not natural. Still, it is an art form and artists do not always portray things in natural tones!
I think I will have to meditate the whole subject a while to crytalise my opinion.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Scott,
Again a great tech quality. Well done HDR work. I liked perspective and light

Great shot! Texture and colours are beautiful!
Best wishes,

Hi Scott!

This road looks so infinite.. or should I say leading to nowhere, witch is what a dead end can be interpreted too. The desaturated sky also adds to this feel. Reading the notes it turns out this is not the situation of course :)
Very nice work, TFS!

Best regards,

Wonderful work, Scott! Strong!
Amazing POV with the direction of the lines to the point of escape...
Good sharpness and colours. Great picture!
Congratulations, Scott!
Grande abraço,
