Today’s weather

Well, we have a raging gale outside and the wind is very noisy right now - can you hear it???

The waves this afternoon were quite a sight at our beach. The local lads were really enjoying doing a circuit by jumping off the wharf and swimming ashore and then back onto the wharf again.

My husband walked out on the wharf earlier on when the tide was full - and he was caught by 2 waves that splashed right over the railings, and came home saturated.

I went to take photos around 5pm and the waves had subsided a little.

Aucklanders are being warned to expect flooding and extremely strong winds as bad weather makes its way down the North Island.

MetService forecasters are warning north-easterly winds could reach severe gale level, gusting up to 120 kilometres an hour. It sounds like it has reached that right now.

It's an exciting photo opportunity. . .

Janice hello

the sea in action 1 of my favorite subject that you captured it here with great atmosphere and an adventurous mood! that man flying with the water splashing is wow fantastic!

tfs and regards

So your weather isn't always perfect?
Great action shot .. the guys running down the wharf, the one halfway through his jump. Great observation Janice.

Oh, my gosh, Janice!
what a wonderful action shot. You CAN almost hear the waves. The pier leads in beautifully, it looks almost B&W except for the people in the shot and I love those mad waves crashing all around. And what timing to catch that guy in mid air before he hits the water! Great job! That must have been some sight to see in person. Many thanks and warm regards,

Hi Janice

Very similar shot on the front of The New Zealand Herald this morning, not quite what I was expecting here.
Good timing with the guy diving in.

Regards Derek

Hi Janice, I saw the photo in the Herald this morning and I immediately thought of you and there you are with a similar photo. when I drove up the Old Albany Highway this morning the rain was so bad I had to stop and there were several areas of flooding.

Great photo and good on you for braving the weather.

Great action shot Janice, you did well going out in that weather

Are these your friends here Janice ? lol

Hey matey..what a grand shot...you have captured everything really well... one can certainly "feel" the weather in this shot! I like how you have just caught that guy tumbling over the side there.. wow.

But Im getting a bit worried about you meeting these fellas on the wharf Janice.... Dave watch her!...when your not getting yourself soaked!... oh dear...:-)

Thanks for sharing this great shot Janice.

I've seen this pic before............B-)..... HAHA! Nice shot Janice! The kid jumping off, is he ok??? This looks dangerous~! I would not do it! 120MPH??? WHAT?.... wow...get a kite! Nice catch on the waves crashing up! Good job!
Now...where is my report button....hmmmmmm

Great stuff Janice! Top marks for taking your camera out in those atrocious conditions. Excellent action shot.
Cheers, Pat.

Excellent; congrats !!!

Haha I just love that poor guy caught jumping off the pier - he looks like a ragdoll that's been tossed around! And the other guy caught half way in a stride, he seems to be levitating LOL. Very nice shot! You've captured this windy weather well (although it hasn't been tooo bad down here...)

Hi Janice,
Very good and beautiful shot, good action photo.
Best regards,

Hi Janice,
Good daily life capture of the effects of the weather, I must have been really tough to take this picture regarding the circumstances. Interesting presentation of weather conditions, TFS!
Have a nice weekend!

Good one. Was this not the photo seen in the local Herald, or did they do a similar one?
The 'line' between the rough sea and the safe haven of the pier works well.
Definitely exciting weather.
