Rose – Unwelcome Guests

This rose is called “Heart of Gold”, and I was given it by my son’s mother-in-law 12 years ago when my father died. And it is a wonderful flower that gives me so much joy each year.

I took this photo with my friend’s n*k*n camera last Sunday, and today when I went to look at it again I found the leaves all eaten and some very interesting visitors all over the petals.

I wasn’t sure if it was the n*k*n camera that did it first – you can’t trust these n*k*ns.

Check out the Workshop photos and you'll understand what I am talking about. . .

Roses have many Unwelcome Guests

Rose chafers
Chinese rose beetles
Japanese beetles
Rose slugs
Rose midge, a white fly larva
Japanese beetles
Spider mites
Leafcutter bees
Rose scales

Camera: Nikon D2X
Lens: Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm 1;35-5.6 G ED

It's perfect, what to ask of more ?

Great rose Janice. It does look almost like velvet. Very nice soft color and light. The plants we recieve in memory of someone are always very special.
Pity about the bugs though. Did you find out who the culprit was? Our biggest problems with roses here are aphids and powdery mildew.

Hello Janice,

You acted well, in this instance.
The Nikon would have helped enormously in eradicating the unwanted visitor maybe through the shine of the lens, maybe from the threateningly extending lens, maybe just from the terror created by the name, you know... a bit like Zorro!

It has done a fine job in capturing the details of this flower in sharp focus. I like how the light is giving interesting tonal variations.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

LOL..LOL Janice...

Interesting title here to your ROSE..im sure it wasnt the chinese rose beetle or the Japanese rose beetle that did the damage.possibly the Port Rose Beetle..have you noticed them ??.. though I dont have them..cos I got rid of all my ROSES...im sure it couldnt have been the N*K*N..

Lovely rose here Janice, lovely full bloom and colour.

Nicely presented too.
