[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The eastern coastline faces the Pacific Ocean. I took this photo early one morning about 10km south of Kaikoura township. The mist generated from the relentless pounding of the Pacific Ocean is eveident here.

The waters off this length of NZ coastline is extremely deep such that whales come in to feed and can easily be observed by land, sea and air. Whale watching is a very popular tourist activity, I have had this pleasure twice, once by plane and once by helicoptor. An unforgetable experience and well worthwhile.

The sea depths and rich nutrients encourage the colonisation of kelp beds, this seaweed may grow many meters in length and serve as a playground for the many seals living here.

Nice pic Martyn, the patch of blue sky looks a little out of place. A good seascape nevertheless.
I think you mean UNforgettable in your note.
Cheers,
Pete.

Spectacular! You did a great job here, an amazing view, with excellent composition and beautiful light.
I love this

Hi Martyn
Great shot, looks cold there, the beach looks volcanic.
Regards
Gil

Hi Martyn, well composed and the soft colour and light make this shot. I disgaree with Marco that it needs power, you can see the power in the waves. Good detail and nicely framed. TFS,
David

Hi Martyn
These are beautiful soft colours that convey a genuine sense of peace and isolation. It's a long way east from NZ's Pacific coast before you get to anywhere else, and I really feel that when I look at this photograph. Powerful in an understated way.
cheers (and Happy New Year!)
Stephen

Hi Martyn,
Very beautiful setting. The cost looks very wild with the mist and the mountains reaching to the water. Well done.
