From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name 'Kaikoura' means 'To eat crayfish' ('kai'- to eat, 'koura' - crayfish)

is a town on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is located on State Highway 1 and is midway between Picton and Christchurch (180kms south) on the main highway. The landscape is dominated by mountains, coastline and a Peninsula(where the main township is situated).

I took this photo around 5pm from the far eastern part of the Kaikoura Peninsula. What a view we had, overlooking the rocks and stony beach and up over the township to the mountain ranges the Kaikoura mountains, a branch of the Southern Alps come nearly to the sea at this point on the coast.

The crayfish industry is a major contributor to the economy of the region.

My husband and I holidayed down south in autumn last year...

Hello Janice,

Nice to see you posting again.
Your low pov, capturing the rocky pools and shingle, sets the scene nicely. The cool colours and the edge of the surf lead the eyes smoothly and deeper, into the shot. Here, for me, the best feature of the shot, the low clouds fronting the shadowy mountains, adds a feeling of unreality, mystery! A great MOOD shot.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)

There's a whole lot going on in this shot - from the foreground rocks, to the incoming breaker, the clouds against the mountains and those jetstream clouds ... a very spectacular shot!
Nicely managed levels, colours, and sharpness.

Hi Janice

nice capture great detail on the mountains and fore ground ,this is such a beautiful place to take photos well done.

Wow! What a fantastic view! Could you export part of NZ to Europe? I love these views! :-D

Very well composed frame with good use of horizontal lines. I like the proportions between the fg and the distant layers - it makes the photo very well balanced. Just a window to jump into and enjoy! tfs

Hi Janice,
Those different clouds layers are awesome. They really give the photo a completely different feel. I especially like the lower one giving the mountains some extra attention.
Did you brighten the FG rocks? They looks a little pale and also slightly OOF.

Hi Janice, nice to learn a word with this perfect scene shot with wonderful composition and framing.
TFS and have a nice WE!

Hi Jancie,
This landscape talks a lot for me!
I like much these atmospheric views on a coastal area.
This one is terrific with the cloudy layers in alternation with the mountains and the bursts of blue sky.
The rocks in foreground draw our attention towards the sea and mountains so effectively. This is a very beautiful composition in blue and white.
Be proud of it! Annie

Kia Ora Janice!
Excellent capture of this landscaspe. Intrigue layers of mist showing an mysterious mountainscape. The light is perfect the relative low POV creates a fine view. Excellent exposure using the right aperture of f/10.
Great posting my dear!

Hi Janice,
This is a nice shot... It like the colours of the sky. It must be a very nice restful place for nature lovers or crowded city habitant.
