Kaikoura

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kaikoura
is a town on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is located on State Highway 1 and is midway between Picton and Christchurch (180kms south). The landscape is dominated by mountains, coastline and a Peninsula(where the main township is situated).

I took this photo around 4 pm from the Bed’n’Breakfast that we stayed in. What a view we had. As you can see the town has a strikingly beautiful setting, as the Kaikoura mountains, a branch of the Southern Alps come nearly to the sea at this point on the coast.

The name 'Kaikoura' means 'To eat crayfish' ('kai'- to eat, 'koura' - crayfish) and the crayfish industry is a major contributor to the economy of the region.

However Kaikoura has now become a popular tourist destination, mainly for whale watching (the Sperm Whale watching is perhaps the best and most developed in the world) and swimming with or near dolphins.

Hi Janice,
Again a breathtaking view from yoiur beautiful country! Although a bit hazy the mountains are well shown in this image. The cloudy sky is a fine part in this view. Well seen and presented!

Great POV. A fantastic landscape shot, you have used the rule of thirds well. You have taken the shot from the perfect point to show off the curve of the coastline. well done

great window view. The shoreline curve leading to the mountains is great. Too bad there are buildings here too. TFS. K2

I see the cloud starting to drop down the mountains Janice. A beautiful curve in that bay, good colour and nicely composed. TFS,
