[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Whatipu area is a Scientific Reserve owned by the Department of Conservation and managed on behalf by the Auckland Regional Council.

It is a spectacular area of coastal dunes and wetlands. It is also the breeding ground for endangered species such as the New Zealand Dotterel. Due to its status as a scientific reserve no dogs are permitted at Whatipu.

Swimming is not recommended at Whatipu beach as the surf and tidal conditions are extremely dangerous

Hi Tim,

I like the texture of the sand in this one very much, plus the depth is great with that sawgrass in the foreground -clarity from there all the way back as far as the eye can see. Really nice!

Have a great day!

Crisp shot adds to a feeling of fresh air and sunshine. The sculptural grass and flower heads adds adds essential interest.

Beautifully composed shot Tim, the ripply sand looks great, along with the Toitoi blowing gently in the foreground. Looks like it was a nice day, the lighting seems spot on. Impressive post.

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Tim
Windswept and totally shows the ruggedness of this place. Love the black sand and the ripples associated in this. Colours are first rate in this.
Cheers
Jim

I'd love to go back and see Whatipu again - is the road out there any better?
Awesome shot Tim, the textures and shadows of the sand show up well. And the toetoe is well placed too. Excellent colours and lighting too
