[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I don't really know too much about photography and this is my first contribution. The photos are taken by the small Olympus digital 'fun' camera that my parents kindly bought me for Christmas before I went travelling.

I took this picture with my Olympus camera which I hastily grabbed from the pocket of my board shorts. We were about to jump into a dodgy cab across the street and head out for some food when I noticed this post downpour light display. In fact I almost fell victim to the bus which you can see approaching me as I stood in the middle of the road to get the shot.

I didn't line it up or anything, just turned the camera to portrait and clicked the button, but when I looked back at it I noticed that the palm tree offered some focus for the foreground. As the sun was bright and low behind me, highlighting the colours through water drops, it also burnt a deep yellow/orange tint onto the trunk and lower palms of the tree.

I can't really tell you much more than that due to my total lack of photographic knowledge, apart from that it was taken in Nadi, Fiji. Anyhow I would welcome any comments/criticisms.

The colours really attracted me to this in the thumbnails. This is a really nice view of the rainbow. Well done on the composition and colours.

Hi Jim, you should learn more about photography as you keep posting your pictures, and also looking at other photos and critiques.
FIJI - I love FIJI!! You did well here for a quick snap!! The colour is a bit unusual, but you've got the rainbow and also the bus bearing down on you.
You use "Portrait" on your camera when you are taking a portrait of a person or object - not the angle of the pic - this upright pic is a 'portrait angle' as compared to a 'landscape angle' pic. Set your camers for a "sunny day" (in Fiji) or AUTO and the camera will do what it needs to do.
To set to Portrait as you did on your camera, softens the picture, unsharpens it)
I hope this is of help to you,
Janice
