I was not sure which category and genre this cute little fellow falls in really , firstly i chose ' places '--could be , not people frankly -- and secondly i selected three categories in which to put him , 'nature' because it is there that i found this cutie in , well we are able to make out a little of the animal environment here , i also picked out of the rest 'Decisive moment' and 'event' , that has to do with the chance i had to be there at the right moment and also the fact that it was an eventful occasion for me to discover one of the sweetest of all australian animals , well this one , hehe mine !
I was lucky enough as a first-timer to this huge country , yes fortunate to have come across this koala's path .I had seen quite a few in the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary near Brisbane and later in the Healesville one near Melbourne in pretty settings i admit but catching one in the wild not anywhere near or within fences is way different, i jubilated as i watched this furry creature slowly making its way across the pavement down into a low dich and up that tree right by the road , i pulled the car over and approached him very slowly and was rewarded with him clawed and seemingly confortable in that position peeking down at me , i did a three shots with time to reload and reajust , he felt compelled to give me those moments then he climbed higher up the tree ! This fellow made my day and it was a nice one weather-wise too .
Converted to B&W , i prefer over the color version , hum i know there is OE on its leg , cropped , curves , unsharp mask , hey sharpness is not that good , a large white frame . Processed by scanner.
Picture taken with my old Minolta x 700 , my usual 28-85 zoom lens attached for this one , he was so near !
Thank you for looking ,

Hi Carol,
yes, it's so cute - and it must be amazing to see a Koala so close.
Thanks, a wonderful post, I like the framing also.

Hi Carol,
No matter which category to put this picture, matter picture itself.
Excellent player and if we account for this Koala bear is among my favorite animals ... Thanks for this post.
Have a pleasant day,

Hoi Carol,
I think I would have chosen a colored presentation. B/W doesn't work so well because of the tree with its curves and patterns. But ... it is a matter of taste too.
The composition is superb, and indeed, it is cute.

Bonjour Carol

Quel joli portrait de ce gentil koala.
Très beau travail en n&b. J'aime beaucoup le cadre également.
Un moment de paix que tu as su saisir .
Paisible et ravissant seront les deux adjectifs que j'attribue à ta photo.
Superbe composition
Tous mes voeux pour cette nouvelle année 2010

Hi Carol,
This is a great shot, the clarity and tones in the B&W processing of this image are superb, the Koala is well placed on the tree and the texture of the tree stands out brilliantly. TFS

looks great in bl/wh someone said during the recent hot weather they were seen begging water from people.
sooo cute tfs

Hi Carol,
A wonderful shot of this Koala bear in B&W.
Very sharp capture adorned with good light and fantastic details.
Very cute creature looking attentively to you, while seems relaxed!
Nice contrasts and a lovely thick white frame to enclose it.
Well seen and neatly presented.
Best regards,

Francis Xavier

Hello Carol!
Great capture of the Koala and perfect focus!
Look nice in black/white, but I think in colours is beautiful, too. I would like to see colour version. Maybe you can post it in WS.
The large white frame is nice, too!
Best regards!

And now you're in Australia!!! As I said, hard to keep up to you :)
THis is great Carol, and I must say .. I love the extra wide white frame on this one... suits is perfectly if you ask me.
yes, maybe a little over exposure on his knee, but otherwise everything looks great ... great tones throughout. He did give you a perfect little pose there, didn't he.
Wonderful job on the scanning too.
Have a nice evening my friend

Hello Dear Carol
Happy new year my friend

An Excellent shot for that beautiful koala, when i saw the Thumb, i was think it's a doll, but when i open it i found it's real, and it's really beautiful.

Excellent shot.

Love it ,the best possible cliche presentation of Australia Carol well framed, this is OZ!

Beautiful compo. Love the contrast between the soft fur and the wood.
That OE spot is a pitty but maybe it can be a bit corrected in photoshop ?
Do hope so !

Hi Carol,

I hadn't realised you have been to Brisbane. I live there and have never seen a koala in the wild. You were really lucky! I have seen some wild koalas at Phillip Island in Victoria though but that was before I got interested in photography. Hope you can visit Australia again soon! Good b&w shot with excellent sharpness & tonal range. Tfs!
