My humble contribution to the Friday Theme, “Bridges,” is from my collection of covered bridges in Parke County, Indiana (Home of the annual Covered Bridge Festival). There are over 30 covered bridges in this mostly rural farming country in east central Indiana, and I have had the opportunity to shoot nearly all of them.

This is a photo of the 150 ft (46m) Mecca Bridge, located in the town for which it is named crossing Big Raccoon Creek. It is now bypassed by an adjacent paved road bridge.

The original RAW image was made in the morning light and a Polarizer was used to get deep color saturation. Other adjustments were made in PS RAW/PS5 to enhance the image. Then using Nik Viveza I made some final adjustments adding a bit of structure. Back in PS5 made some slight final adjustments to brightness/contrast using curves.

I tried Nik HDR (single image Tone-Mapping), but thought in this case the original non-HDR version was more natural.

PS: Years ago I also shot on film the many covered bridges in Madison County, Iowa, made famous in the book and motion picture and have them on my web site: Bridges of Madison County.
Also, I have almost all of the Parke County covered bridges at: Bridges of Parke County.

Hi Larry,
An interesting POV to capture this covered bridge with such a dramatic sky as BG. Perfect sharpness and excellent light management. Beautiful play with shadows. A wonderful contribution to the Theme.

What a detailed shot from a wooden bridge with amazing focus and contrast against a lovely sky, Larry!

Superb sharpness and perfect POV for this location.
The DOF is amazing and light is very well handled.

A nice entry to Friday's theme!

Kind regards,
Paras

The image is very attractive in my opinion, no matter if it's a PP light maneged. TFS. You have carefully cropped it and beautifully showed the height difference.

Hi LArry.

I like this.
The shading across the sides coupled with the two tone effect of paintwork grabs my eye. The sky is very impressive, a somewhat mackerel sky meaning a change. The foreground slope also adds appeal to your scene, well taken. TFS

Stv :0))

Have a good weekend.

Larry

The first thing I thought it was the movie "On the Madison road Bridge country" by Clint Eastwood.
This is a beautiful photo with excellent use of colors, the POV is well chosen and makes the covered bridge in value with a good perspective.
Shadows are very interesting and give life to the scene.
Very nice entry to the Friday Theme.

Hello Larry :)

You registered yourself in Friday subject, this very interesting and the composition fantastically.
I like these old, antique bridges very much, and this look very originally.
The perfect realization, and the bridge in natural colours and beautiful light presents oneself magnificently.

With best wishes.
Barbara.

Good shot LAB,your chosen angle takes in the whole length of this 150ft. bridge.Looks like it requires a little touch up from the city works, the locals should ensure this wooden bridge is kept in good shape,it's part of their heritage for sure.I like your choice of composition, gives a feel for a rural area, with the small portion of the telegraph pole showing. The weathered wood of its side, balances so well with the blue sky & white clouds & I like how the shadows of the trees are caught on the red boards.Well taken.Good choice for this weeks theme.
Cheers
Ron

I must admit I've never photographed a single covered bridge. Looks like Indiana is the place to visit (30 bridges). I like the shadows of the bare trees on the side of bridge. The sky has a interesting pattern along the top front of bridge. Just a great photo Larry.

Hi Larry

I love the warm cold color contrast between the blue sky & salmon pink covered bridge. Good sharpness & angled, upward pov with excellent density & saturation. Tfs & have a great weekend!

Awesome capture of this covered bridge and good contribution to Friday's theme. I'm not sure how it started but I've thinking about the book "Bridges Of Madison County." Great story and good movie. I think should publish your photos of covered bridges. I like your pov and it has a good dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Hello Larry, a good PoV looking up to the bridge.I like the way that you have managed to get its' whole length into the shot. The shadows add further interest to the composition.
The colours are delightful.
Well done with the pp.
Tfs, regards Jean.
