Another image for my recent stage directing of the Stephen Sondheim musical, "Into The Woods.”

This scene depicts the Baker’s Wife and Cinderella’s Prince Charming, who upon a chance meeting in the woods; have a romantic encounter portrayed in the song, “Anything Can Happen in the Woods.” As quickly as it begins, the Prince is ready to move on kissing her hand as he departs onto another conquest.

This image was taken under existing stage lighting (I also did the stage lighting design) which here consisted of a mix of color gelled tungsten lighting. Shot in RAW at ISO 1600 using a 1.4x extender the camera was set for tungsten lighting and was tripod mounted about 40-feet (12m) from the stage in the aisle of the house. Being also a theatrical lighting designer, stage lighting is not always ideal for photography, because the human eye is a much better camera and stage lighting is done for people not cameras.

PP in PS5 RAW and PS, did only some basic adjustments without altering the look of the stage image. Cropped tighter, and ran the image through NIK Define (noise reduction) and NIK Sharpener.

Usually I select several images from the show for our lobby display, and this is one of them. Hope you enjoy and soon will be back to a more regular TL participation.

Hi Larry, the lighting is perfect, I like the sharp crisp colors and the focus. I would love to see more space on the left side, it would also take the subject away from center. Nice work & tfs..

HI Larry,
Very neat work of this theatrical presentation.
I like the pose you managed to capture which is continuity. Perhaps the lighting is not perfect but you obtained an appropriate atmosphere.
Well done,

Francis Xavier

Hi Larry
A nice long shot!
Great focus, vivid colors!
The beautiful background is spot on!
A little more sharpening will better!
Best wishes
Alireza :)

To me, the scene looks 3-D and gives the viewer a wonderful feeling of a live show, Larry!

The skin tones are nice and contrast to the BG is well kept.
The colors are eye-catching and positioning of the artists is well thought within a natural framed work.

Best regards,
Paras

Hi Larry

Apart from the slight blue color cast & very slight lack of sharpness on the 2 fg subjects, I see no other flaws. Good saturation, lighting contrast and pose. The red cape contrasts well against the green cyan bg. Tfs!

Hi Larry...excellent shot. very sharp condisering the shutter speed and aperture and long lens. Nice lighting...very nice work.

Roger

Details are great for a wide open lens and slow speed. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
