This is the Michael Burks Band, shot at the Green Planet Blues Festival in Belleville, Illinois. Thanks to global warming and our green planet, the beautiful spring weather and temperatures departed for this weekend to make this festival a cold one - the sun had come out by this point, but the wind was still howling and the temperature was about 50 degrees Fahrenheit with a much cooler wind chill.

It was unfortunate since here in the St. Louis Metro area, music, sports or anything fans do not participate if the weather is not to their liking. Hence the saying "fair weather fans". I don't think many more than 300 folks showed up for a great line-up of five excellent bands, including Michael Burks, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Devon Allman & Honeytribe, John Lee Hooker Jr. and Kim Massie (a local St. Louis blues/jazz singer). I went through the trouble of getting credentialed to shoot the festival, and I am no fair weather fan of the blues, so I stayed from start to finish and got some absolutely wonderful shots.

Technically, this isn't the best, but I really like seeing Michael and his drummer Popcorn (yeah, that's his name!) having such a good time at such a grueling gig. I've seen this band on several occasions and shot them at least five times - Michael really rocks the blues! You can experience some of his music if you click here.

I shot this with my new Nikon D7000 - my D300 went out for repair, so I needed a backup. I highly recommend this camera for it's new 16mp sensor and wonderful low light capabilities.

So have a nice Bluesday!

Hi Reed...great shot of these musicians..you captured the mood and feeling very well in your well composed shot.

Hello Rad

I like the capture of the emotion they put into there music. A wonderful capture. Nice

Ha, I knew this had to be your photo Reed!!
Another fine capture of musicians in action. A great moment on both the faces of Michael and Popcorn.. good timing.
I'm already looking forward to our Jazz festival, at which I'll be volunteering this year, and also the Winnipeg folk festival which I'll attend in July.

Belle Únergie positive!Un seul regret,il manque le son...Catherine

An excellent shot with a nice contrast of colors and a high level of detail. Great DOF and exposure. A nicely handled shot.

Nice atmosphere you catch here and a good position of the elements in the composition !
Kind regards
