Northern mockingbird
(from Yardner.com)
Unlike many small birds that spend every waking hour looking for food, mockingbirds take time to survey the passing world. From their preferred high perch on a roof or tree branch they trill their varied songs, flicking their long tails, wren-like, every so often. They are acrobatic fliers and feisty combatants when it seems like a good idea to harass neighborhood cats, dogs, squirrels other birds and wildlife to protect their territory.

I have seen those rascals chase cats and dive at them from the air.

Some levels work - shadows/highlights, brightness/contrast, gamma. Cropped, framed, resized and sharpened Seems I have been oversharpening things a bit lately so I hope this one isn't quite as overdone..

Hi Shelly,

A very nice capture of the little rascal. And, oh yes, they'll dive bomb people too if they get annoyed by them. Good placement of the bird in the frame, and he is sharp, but I don't think over sharpened. You even captured a catchlight in its eye, well done.

Warm regards,
Werner

Hi Shelly,

It's a sharp image . . perfect focus on the eye . .

Hi Shelly,
Superb catch of this little bird, lovely focus through the branches and still nice and sharp after the crop in, not over sharpened on my monitor but nice and crisp with good colouring. Best wishes

Hi Shelly
That´s a lovely composition, an eyecatching post! Well captured indeed !
TFS. Kind regards,

Hi, Shelly. The POV, clarity and the DOF with background colors captured in a natural environment makes this photo very special. The composition looks very good because of the pleasing abstract design of the background colors. Cheers.

Bonjour Shelly,
Très jolie présentation de cette petite bête qui semble très moqueur (son nom lui va très bien). Le cadrage est excellent.
Merci du partage.
Danièle.

Shelly, I didn't understand your title "Militant" until I read your notes. Very well presented and identified I might add. In addition, very well photographed, composed, and all the other essentials needed to produce a great image. Congrats! Not too much over sharpening. Just right!

Bonsoir Shelly,

Nice shot of the bird. Nice clear sharp image and well exposed. The technic is good and well controled. However, I beleive the food is a little obvious in the image. It look as important as the bird itself. Maybe this is what you wanted to illustrate. I would have cropped the image differently to emphaze the bird. See the included WS. Still a very good image showing good knowledge of photography. TFS.

That is cool Shelly! The Mockingbird is our state bird! And YES they have been known to attack. They are always messin with the cats and mailmen around here! This is nice, very nice view with the blue sky behind him! Nice focusing as all the other stuff could have picked up the beam and been OOF..but you got it!
B-)

Hi Shelly
A perfect long focal shot of this amazing bird beside its nest
Good sharp details and depth of field
The out of focus branches create 3D vision to this image
The colors are natural and faithful
Best wishes, Alireza

Hi Shelly,

I miss FB but nothing I can do about at the moment. Excellent warm cold color contrasts between the blue & red, with perfect sharpness on the mockingbird. In Australia, we have magpies that dive-bomb people every Spring (September/ October). Tfs!

Spectacular shot! the sharpness is exemplary with superb exposure and a crucial catch light/glint in the eye. A very well taken shot to be proud of- well done!

Regards,

Dilshan

Hi Shelly, I like this very sharp and interesting image. I note you used a 70-210mm zoom, and am very impressed with the result. The subject is in good focus and beyond is not, making it stand out well. My goal is to produce more like this too. TFS. Murray
