Heron look very awkward when they’re fishing, and I wonder how they manage to catch anything. It’s an interesting sight, and this one caught a nice fish for itself. I was standing on an outlook over the creek when this one circled, landed and caught the fish nearby. Here it flew to the shore to eat its meal.

Shot in RAW, cropped, added contrast, sharpened.

Hi Werner

Good catch, yours and the heron's LOL. You were there at theright moment and I love the way you captured the bird as though it were walking on the surface of the creek. Good natural colors and beautiful composition.

Great timing Werner! Looks like you clicked the shutter at just the right time! This is perfectly frozen with the 1/1250s shutter speed I am amazed me how this wading bird can catch fish like that. The clarity and focus on this shot is excellent. Best wishes

Action stop indeed Werner, great capture.Sharp details in its wings,& I like that rear splash of water as he takes off with his catch. Not an everyday shot, time, patience& skill & a little luck, make for a productive shoot. Well taken.

Bravo Werner.

Hi,Wener. Action shot captured with good timing. The colors of the heron are natural and contrasts nicely with the BG. The reeds look fine. Cheers.

Werner, great catch, not only by the great heron but by your camera also! Just for the heck of it I would have cropped closer to the bird to emphasize the dramatic action of it's catch. Just a suggestion. Otherwise wonderful photo!

Can't catch it any better than this! Well done.

On voit sure l'eau son départ pour les aires, génail l'effet de cet eau qui se soulève, avec son long bel le fond en roseeuax et en vert, sueprbe cpatage au bon moment.

merci et amitié

Hi Werner ,
A good decisive moment shoot with nice placement of your subject, colors are fine with accuracy and natural tone, the sharpness of the subject is superb even in moving position, well I can't say blur but smaller aperture may worked better in more precise details.
Best Wishes

Hello Werner,

This is a very good photo in a perfect timing.
Excellent focus, sharpness and light.
Very natural colors.

Warm greetings and best wishes,

Bonjour Werner,

Buen dia
un saludo

HA! Dancing on the water! You caught him well here, quick thinking and nice panning to get him sharp! An added bonus is the fish in his mouth! Nice work!

Hi Werner,

The moment is special and no doubt, you left no stone unturned in bringing nice result from this work.
his work.

For me, there is considerable OE which decreases the contrast between the bird and the BG. I tried a WS on this picture, hoping you don't mind. May be I might be wrong but I wanted to give a try how the picture looks like afterwards.

Thanks for sharing such a great moment.

Best regards,

Hello Werner! Caught in the act! Great timing my friend, the pose is awesome as it was in a lift off situation with the prize in its beak! Well done, I can understand a little OE here with the contrast between the darker surroundings and the white head of the bird and the fish itself. A fine catch my friend!

Hello Werner,a splendid shot; a case of being in the right place at the right time.
There seems to be no blur at all, so your camera setting was pretty close to perfect, I think.
The composition is spot on, with the splash from the heron's feet, and space for the bird to fly into.
Tfs, regards Jean.
