[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
To roll in the new year, I thought it was appropriate to show people at work. Hopefully, 2010 will be a year that the global recession turns around (especially in the USA), and people can get back to work. California has been hit hard by the economic hardships with no money in the coffers and massive layoffs, work furloughs, etc. So, I hope that 2010 will be prosperous and productive for all of us on Treklens.

This shot shows the cable car workers moving the cable car around on the turntable at its terminus. Unlike my earlier shot of a trolley, this is an actual cable car that has no power plant of its own - it just has a huge clamp that grips the underground cable and propels it around the city. At the end of the line, manpower is needed to move the cars around and place them in position to grip the cable. The cable cars are fun, but not really efficient transportation because of long lines, delays, and full cars due to massive numbers of tourists like me.

This was taken with my Canon Powershot G6 which has turned out to be a good trip camera because it has a a fast 4X zoom lens, adequate resolution, and is light and handy to boot. Cropped and resized on iPhoto, and that's about it.

Happy New Year to all my friends on Treklens!

Hi Gilbert!

Although I've deleted all my photos, I haven't closed out my account. I still get emails when my favorites have posted.

This is a cool photo, real-life, great focus and composition! I'm surprised that this switch is done manually, very surprised. Yes, at a time like this, I'm glad that these fellas are gainfully employed.

I have enjoyed this photo and note. Thanks for sharing it!

Happy New Year my friend! I wish you well.

Dennis

Hi Gilbert,

I remember the turnaround well, and I'm pretty sure I rode the Powell & Hyde car during my visit to SF. When I was there, the cars were busy, but never too full to hop on. You've captured the essence of the scene well, I really like the crop to eliminate any distractions. I watched a movie last night that you might be interested in, the cinematography is superb. It's called "Local Color." The story is pretty good, but throughout the movie I kept remarking to my wife how excellent the photography is.

Happy New Year to you also my friend!

Werner

Hi Gilbert,
To me this is a unique photo. Never saw this before. I thought this was done by machines or so.
Good note with this unique photo.
Happy new year to you and your family too.
Tfs

dear Gilbert,
very symbolic picture, as you noted,
but this scene is very funny and cheerful,
the heavy iron train is moved and turned by human efforts,
it is meaningful to me,
thank you for your nice capturing,
Akihisa
