[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
He appears to be making an emergency water landing, but he's actually chasing another duck. It was an interesting sight to see, especially now viewing the sequence from a short burst of photos. The male Mallard duck's colors shine through.

I darkend the shot slightly, cropped out a couple of other ducks and boosted saturation.

Thanks for viewing.

Awesome capture here with good timing and anticipation-you have pulled it off well given that you are shooting at 92mm. Nice composition also with good sharpness. From my experience with this lens, when you are shooting action wildlife, I find keeping it at 105mm (157mm 35mm equiv) will give you better close-up action shots and allow better cropping detail as you are using the maximum Tele-range. You can never bee too close to the Duck at 105mm on this lens and it is a great lens for medium sized birds like this who don't mind human presence as you can get a lot closer to them. Hope this helps and thank you for sharing this with us!

Best regards,

Hi Werner!

This sure does look like a crash landing. Great capture! There's a certain type of bird that can't land well, but I can't remember the name. It crashes....a loon maybe? Maybe that's where the phrase, "Crazy like a Loon" came from.

I've been busy all day. I did make it to the zoo, but took more photos of flowers than anything else. Most animals were behind a fence.

I've been working on this HDR fact-simile; it looks good on some, and not at all on others. I'm having fun thought. I'll post one tomorrow.

Ha!! Good action shot Werner. Very ungainly and what a splash he must have made.
You caught him well and the water has frozen too
Well done

Hi Werner,
Nice timing ! Good control of your settings here. Nice strong details and I love the colors of the mallard. TFS Julie

Hi Werner,

Indeed, it looks ike emergency landing!
This motion of mallard brings energy in the capture, taken with nice colors. I agree with Dilshan, mentioning that the focus is bit soft on the subject, but overall it worked well.

Well done!

best regards,

Buena imagen que da una gran sensacion de dinamismo y velocidad del ave nadando

Hi Werner - Interesting action shot of nature. Interesting diagonal movement across the image.
