Taking a break from the younger kids today and I decided to post a picture of my oldest daughter Aislinn. It seems like yesterday she was running around in diapers now she is driving a car. Where does the time go?

For this shot we were at a local park and the sun was at her back. The camera was in manual mode with the following settings; ISO 200, SS 1/250 and aperture f4.5. I used my SB600 flash for fill light so I did not have a silhouette. In PP I cropped adjusted levels, adjusted saturation and contrast slightly. I added vignetting, signed and resized for TL. I hope you like this shot and as always thanks for viewing.
Have a great day!
Regards,
Kevin

Beautiful Kevin! I like this. For me I would have removed some of the shiny parts off her chin, just because of the flash. I like that vignetting! Good job on this!

Hi Kevin,

Very nice portrait of your daughter and I know what you mean by how fast they grow up. Effective use of fill flash and the vignetting really helps accentuate her lovely face. Nice work!

Ah, Kevin,
what a great job using that flash. Excellent light and contrast, outstanding detail, perfectly composed and wonderful color. I love that bokeh that sets off your subject so well, too. And your daughter is such a lovely girl. Great job!! Many thanks and kindest wishes,
Shelly

hey Kevin
lovely portrait of very sweet and beautiful girl
great light and BG

Hi Kevin
A camera mounted flash isn't really ideal for this kind of shot, like a pop-up it tends to give highlights and catchlights that aren't as subtle as they could be. I'm starting to think that a reflector is a better fill-light source.
That said, this has a very professional look to it, possibly more so if you were to boost the blacks a little and introduce some dynamic depth. Personally not so keen on the vignette, I don't think it needs it.
Your daughter has a great connection with the camera. For all my nit-picking, it's an excellent shot - well done.
Rew

Hi Kevin,

It's a beautiful image but the first thing I see is the funky white balance. Your daughter's skin appears yellow/greenish. I've posted a workshop on one way to fix the skin tones.

I realize that this wasn't a portrait session but if it were I would suggest bringing in your fill light in at a 45 degree angle as opposed to straight because it gives your subject more depth. TFS!

Phil

Hello Kevin,

I am no expert at portraits but I do think this looks very professional. Your daughter has wonderful contact with the camera, and what a beautiful young lady she is.
Thecomposition is excellent.
After looking at Phil's w/s, i think he has improved a little on the skin tones but I think the original still deserves 2 points.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Great shot of your daughter Kevin, a beautiful girl.

I think that most of the 'nit picky' points have been stated - for me the main culprit being the direct flash! I do like the vignette, although as Rew points out it's not needed - I still like it. Nice control of DOF with the f4.5.

Good work..
David

A beautiful girl and a lovely smile! You must be so proud. It's nice to see your family. I prefer the colors here to those in the ws. I especially like how her eyes match the bg. TFS P.S. Did you recieve my email?

Hi Kevin,
yes I have often asked myself that same question, where does the time go:)
I think your daughter will be very happy with this portrait
the image shows her youthfulness & beauty, off very well.I'm not that knowledgeable of portrait photography so my critique is really more of a question. It appears that the fill flash worked well on her face & I wondered if it could have been used to also lighten the rest of her skin tones as the shoulder looks too dark IMHO.Thanks for the tip re use of fill flash .
