I’m sure the fish will agree with me that sometimes things just don’t work out the way you had hoped. Last Thursday was the only day we spotted dolphins off the coast. I rushed to our room, retrieved the camera and walked north on the beach to the vicinity where I spotted them. I knew that they would be difficult to capture without a longer lens, but what the heck, I’ll try anyway. They were less active by the time I arrived and I only glimpsed their dorsal fins a couple of times before they were gone. My wife had watched them with our binoculars while I was getting the camera and said that one of them did a nice back flip out of the water. It figures :(

While I was waiting, this seagull landed very nearby with his catch of the morning. I guess he was my consolation prize, but I was happy to get a few shots of him and his fish. Something I observed with the seagulls is that they emit a distinctive cry (half chirp/half screech) while they’re flying with a fish they’ve caught. Every time I heard that cry, there was a seagull flying by with another fish. It’s kind of humorous, because usually they’re so dumb that other gulls will steal the food right out of their mouth!

Thank you for viewing, and I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

Hi Werner

Or 'bon appertif', if the seagull's flown in from Quebec! Good sharpness & dof. Excellent positioning slightly off center, also. Tfs & have a great Sunday!

HI Werner, this is really a very good snapshot. Guten Appetit für die Möwe.

Hi Werner,
This seagull obviously wanted to show off what he had just caught, lucky you had the camera ready! :). Excellent composition, the exposure looks nice and balanced too - very easy creatures to overexpose so I think you've done well. It stands out nicely against the flat gray sand too. A slight jagged edge along the bottom tail feather but that's just me being picky :). Well taken.

TFS,
Scott.

Hello!
Tasty for sea-gull.A nice portrait of the sea-gull.
Good sharpness and colours.
Greetings
Tadeusz

Hi Werner,
Good crisp shot. Better one bird in view than two dolphins
on the horizon!
Best,
Michael
