As a test run for Adam's new site I offer a scanned throwback to those heady days of the 70's....taken on a family picnic excursion through abandoned fields in the picturesque Charlevoix region just east of Quebec City. The region is a favorite destination for landscape artists from around the world...and photograghers too:-)

Looks good! Soft sun light and nicely framed, the person is well centered and it´s nice to see the way she thinks on life maybe while playing with something the ground gave!

Of course you can see the scanned picture has been taken a while ago, but the soft fading colours are warm, and the sunlight drawing her profile is attractive.
I think there is too much space left behind her back but the overal feeling is very nice, nice first choice Derek...

I like her facial expression Derek, dream like and lost in thoughts as she concentrates on the staw of grass in her hand. I like the space behind her back as it shows us the souraounding.

It seems like a very serene place to relax and contemplate.

Nice to see you here, Derek. A wonderful shot, calm and tranquil. I like the small white flower at the foreground, and the very good DOF. Very well done.

Lovely, warm colors and good DOF. I don't know if you do the same in english but in french we would take off the petals of a daisy saying "je me marie, je me marie pas, je fais une soeur" .. I believe that she didn't become a num.

Very warm colors, it gives a gentle mood to this candid composition. Both the clothes of the woman, and the slight artifacts, remind us of ancient times, but it is charming.
Nina, in France we would take off the petals saying : "Je l'aime, un peu, beaucoup, à la folie,... pas du tout !" (I love him, a little, a lot, madly,.. not at all !)

A lovely shot which has survived well. I would be unable to find anything from so long ago, everything has disappeared. There is just enough detail in the background to see that this is indeed a pretty location.

Lovely picture Derek. She looks so calm just sitting and let the time pass on. Normally I would crop the picture other wise, but looking again I find the fence in the background contributes to the picture. well seen and nice work.

This photo has a romantic feel to it. The pensive look on the ladies face, along with the lovely countryside gives a peaceful feeling too it. The grain is probably due to an older photo being scanned.

Hi, Derek. I like your countryside scenes, and here, you offer us a lively shot, well framed, with a story and just enough elements to imagine the environment. Very attractive illustration of summer and the joy of being in the nature.

I liked a lot this bucolic picture and I allowed myself to tweak a bit the levels. Well Done!

Very wonderful composition, Derek. The thoughtful stance and nice depth of field are so effective. There is considerable digital noise here, though--see all the little squares all over the image?

I like the positioning of the woman: off the center and outwards... Hmm may be she is trying to forget her past... Her expression is creating that sad mood too. The darkness of her face strongly assists the theme.
Warm and lovely colors, great DOF...

Very nice Derek, the colours and the light make this an exceptional capture. The one thing that bothers me a bit is the alignment of the fence post behind yourlady's head. It would be very fiddly to try and move it in PS, but it would be worth a try I think.

I love this shot! The light is golden and rich, the depth of field just right, and the exposure is perfect. Aside from the technical aspects, it has such *soul*. Beautiful!

Romantic, soul, reflective etc., all fit. This is something that memories are made of, aside from some tech aspects that are unimportant to me, it says alot. I'm sure I had a few such moments in the 70's also, just have a tough time remembering. Very nice work. Maybe I'd better look through some old photos............(and then, on second thought, maybe I won't, scary, aging)

J'aime beaucoup l'expression du personnage qui va très bien avec le décor. Belle réussite.
I like very much the expression of the character which goes very well with the decoration(set). Beautiful success.

Nice shot. Like it. Peacefull. Warm colors.
We should say that's a peace'n love era picture. Good composition.

This is one of those wonderful rare captures Derek, that show how truly at home we people are in comfortable nature surroundings. Funny, this one yells "the 70's" at me as well. So uncommon a shot to see in the nowaday. It could have easily been substituted for any record cover by Bonnie Raitt!
Just wish the scan was better.
John

thats a nice subject and a nice picture but I think you should have giving more space infront of her and not placing her in the middle but otherwise its nice. I like how you used DOF here.

Very nice warm colors and mood created here in this photo. Sometimes those photos taken ages ago are still quite nice, as is this one. Calm, peaceful feeling, well done.

Not very sharp, but a nice composition. I like the mood in this picture.

Don

Excellent shot. Like it. TFS

sorry, no reason why a old image could not be scanned better! I could put in the WS my first (known) photograph, taken in the fifties, of my grandad, scanned from a 4X4cm small photo!
It is a shame because there's good light and atmosphere in this image, thanx, M, (*_*)

Ciao Derek
