Happy Simcoe Day to my fellow Torontonians (^o^)

This has to be about the most low-key holiday in the entire calendar! To the rest of Ontario it is simply a civic holiday

Interesting facts about John Graves Simcoe (1752-1806):

First lieutenant governor of Upper Canada (modern-day southern Ontario), 1791-1796

Abolished slavery in Upper Canada in 1810 (he had earlier wanted to form a Loyalist regiment of free blacks from Boston)

He was responsible for the construction of Yonge Street (at 1,178 miles or 1,896 km, the longest street in the world) as a direct fur trade route between Toronto [originally called York, after Frederick, Duke of York (George III’s second son)] and Lake Simcoe (which he named after his late father).

Tech: Shot handheld in RAW, converted to jpg, reduced and sharpened

Thanks for looking and have a wonderful day

Hmmm, tasty. This is summer! A shady spot and a cool drink. A good balance of subdued, yet lively colours matched with a minimal composition of details to indicate the situation and introduce a mood. Well done Silke! And thank you for sharing! - Cheers, Cordelia :) :)

Hi Silke

I'll drink to that! I like the juxtapositioning of real natural art at left in the vegetation with the artificial manmade art designs of the vines on the glass. Wonderful sharpness & soft light. Tfs!
