No one should visit Damascus and miss having an ice cream at Bakdash Ice Cream parlor in the Souk Hamidiyeh. (There is an imitator, so beware). Bakdash has mountains of white ice cream in the window, chandeliers, and lots of customers at all hours of the day. You buy a token for 25 Syrian pounds (about 20p) and exchange it for an enormous cone of ice cream that is rolled in pistachio nuts.

Baksash shop was opened in 1895, the same recipe is being used since that time, it has been transmitted from generation to generation. A unique taste of freshness coming from the mountains.

The story says that every morning, ice is transported from the heights of Damascus on the back of donkeys to reach the store, and then it is mixed and prepared to give a wonderful ice cream!
Enjoy

hi Moncef

Wow! Really a long way back to 1895 for ice cream secret recipe. Quite unusual to find such a crowd of adults in front of the shop, and not many children!

Very nice post.

Hello Moncef
That ice cream must really be out of this world as I have never seen such a line up and gang for ice cream anywhere in either Canada or US.
Looks like you focused on the buildings as it is very sharp.
It is fun to see everyone with their cones.
Nice shot

Hi Moncef,
Love your subject and note. I have been to Syria when I was about 5, so dont remember much of it. I can see that I've missed much:)
