Transportation in Petra
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|This shot was taken in Petra last year whilst on holiday in the Holy Land. The shot was cropped slightly to exclude a tourist standing on the right. |
Petra is located in southern Jordan and is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Due to the color of the stone out of which it is carved it is also known as the Rose City
It is Jordan's most-visited tourist attraction and lies on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Petra has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage".
Petra was chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the "28 Places to See Before You Die."

Lovely memories of our visit to the Lost City.
I loved the way the places were carved out of the rock faces.
Very colourful capture.
Hello David, the camels are nearly the same colour as the rock, thankfully the very colourful blankets are an instant eye catcher!
A good DoF.
The people in the bg give us a good idea of the scale of these rock faces.
Tfs, regards Jean.
