Ferdowsi (also Firdausi 940-1020) Persian: فردوسی
is a highly revered Persian poet. He was the author of the Shāhnāmeh, the national epic of Persian people and of the Iranian World. He was born in a small village named Paj near Toos in Khorasan in North East of Iran.
When he was just 23-years old, he found a “Shāhnāmeh” written by Abu-Mansour Almoammari; it was not, however, in poetic form.
After 30 years of hard work, he finished the book Consisting of some 60,000 verses.
The Shāhnāmeh tells the mythical and historical past of (Greater) Iran from the creation of the world up until the Islamic conquest of Persia in the 7th century, and is of very high respect near persian speaking people.
He is one of the most respected (if not the most respected) poets in Persian culture, and many beleive His dedication to Farsi language had a great influence in its survival during the era of Arabic cultural invasion to Iran. |
