[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Entering New Lanark by the footpath from the visitor car park, this was taken from next to the small church after the first heavy falls of snow in early December.

You can read more about New Lanark and the famous Robert Owen, the great industrialist and social reformer, here. Robert Owen's house is to the right of the picture and the large building behind the telephone box is now the Visitor Centre though was originally the village school, originally and rather ominously called the "Institute for the Formation of Character" - probably not politically correct in our modern times!

Shot in RAW in failing light and converted and edited in PSE6.

Hi John,

I thought when I first noticed this shot that you still had snow until I read your note. This is another lovely shot from you with a magical feel to it. The light is excellent and composition and detail as good as ever. I like how the red telephone box and Christmas decoration above the visitor centre door stand out. Did you boost the colour at all in Pshop?

Regards

Joy

Hi John,
A splendid Winter shot, suitable for a Christmas postcard.
A nice display of attractive elements to produce an artistic British landscape shot.
Perfect light management and accurate sharpness.
A very neat presentation with the red typical English telephone booth which steals the eye!
Well done,

Francis Xavier

Lovely photo John - deep and very sharp DOF, with a thoughtful composition. The exposure and white-balance looks spot on, not always easy with a snowy scene.

This lovely shot has a quaint toy-like appearance. It looks like a miniature. The telephone box adds a tiny but important touch of colour (as do the lights in the windows of the far building). I'm impressed you were not tempted to over brighten this shot as the subdued lighting is a perfect complement to the peaceful and cosy atmosphere. The only thing moving is the little puff of smoke - timeless.

Hi John
wonderful winter scene.
the beautiful brown houses warm up the cold atmosphere.
good pov and well composed with the diagonal road leading-in.
