Dear friends,
presented here is a fore-shortened view of Blackfriars Railway Bridge (seen from the Westminster end).

These red/orange columns are the remains of the original railway bridge designed by Joseph Cubitt and opened in 1864. (See info on Wikipedia for more).

Just next door (downstream) to Blackfriars bridge, this railway bridge makes an interesting spectacle at night when seen from Southwark, appearing almost in silhouette against a comparatively extravagantly lit Blackfriars Bridge.

Exposing from here using the R1, to gather this much colour and light with my aperture at F/7.1, shutter was held open for 42.3 seconds.

Minimal PP: Corrected some vertical lines at the edges.
Cropped off some of the right part.
Saturation +
USM / Contrast. Frame

Thanks for looking and have a good week :-)

Hi Daniel,
My God, what a stunning photo!
The warm lighting on the columns is gorgeous! This very long exposure is very effective. The good photographer eye made the rest of the job!
Beautifully done!

I guess I'm just going to have to make a "favorite Daniel" theme..because you just keep amazing me with your pics! This is stunning! Will certainly have to try more shots like this! Incredible sharpness, the wide angle here has such impact!

Hello again Daniel
I always read you notes with interest, I marvel at the settings and of course the results.
These notes are interesting because of the historical information about this particular bridge.

Color is spot on as usual.

Amazing color-party Daniel,a unique vieuw on the pillars.

Fantastic high impact shot...........again!!!! These columns actually look quite well maintained - bearing in mind that they support nothing whatsoever. They might even be Listed structures I suppose - something Wikipedia doesn't note.

42.3 seconds - that's very precise - do you come to these long exposures simply through lengthy experimentation? I get a bit tetchy waiting to see what an 8 second exposure looks like!

Hi Daniel
I also shoot those columns and now I also know what they are.
wonderful sharp colors and great pov.

Hello, Daniel.

This is truly Fabulous!.

I was interested in your reply to the critique from Colin (crhieatt) about the long exposure of 42.3 seconds at f/7.1. What time of day/night did you take this picture? I'm just trying to imagine just how dark it actually was because your sky looks really quite pale blue and there's lots of light to the right of the picture. I suppose the left side of the picture is mainly in dark shadow from the bridge itself. Very well controlled exposure here.

And a fine informative note too.

Thank you, Daniel, for this one.

Kind Regards,

I was about to say that is not one your night shots but note told me otherwise ;) great photo with very well balanced lighting, thanks for an informative note too Daniel..

Hi Daniel,
The red/orange is astonishing and very eye catching, to be sure. Once I'm done with that though, I'm drawn to the very calm looking water--especially at this exposure--and the star effect on the light.
Well composed, and, as always, a great presentation. Thanks for all the details also.
Take care and tfs,

remind me of chinese lantern.. beautiful shot again, Daniel.. as always perfect.. tfs..

regards, terry

Hi Daniel;
Again, perfect night photo which has good point of view ,contrasts, sharpness, and POV, congratulations.

Hi dear friend,
strong red tones and great architectural details -
nicely seen and presented.
The light is amazing, like usual.
Nicely framed too.
Have a lovely day.

Hi Daniel,
great photo with a great note. I think I've seen the remains of the bridge back in March, but never thought about capturing them. I really like the streak light on the two pillars and the blurr effect on the water. I do think that the long exposure caused a bit of a bright spot on the right of the photo. the perspective from your POV is interesting.

Hi Daniel..your shots are truly fantastic..the super color satuation and details are great..nice work.

Hi Daniel

In fact it is an excellent night look
the details and colors that the night is had
it is spectacular, the columns are of rare beauty!
I like isolated columns, without anything above them.
Picture of high quality and definition!
Congratulations my friend.

Hey Daniel,

This is excellent, really powerful colours and good composition and exposure

a very well saturated image Daniel, very clean and well detailed.well captured.

Hello Daniel !
Another strong and wise composition , with this POV . You took care to have colums from both rows visiible in the background for a better perspective and repetition. Very warm colors.

42.3 seconds..... It must have been pretty dark then !

Well done!

Strong, impressive composition, TFS
Best wishes,

Now, this looks absolutely surreal, Daniel, as if the red pillars in the FG had been edited in later. Interesting also to see that the light further back, between the FG pillars, did not become over-exposed during the long shutter opening. A powerful statement, showing the passage of time. Thank you for sharing it on TL. - Cheers, Cordelia :))

Hi dear Daniel ,
As always great shot.

Very well done.

Hi Daniel...
Amazing my friend..!
Very pleasant and interesting view...
I love the composition, nice details, colors and framing.
Well done,

Hi Daniël,

Yes, I recognise this from your latest upload, here the focus really is on the old railway bridge, and the POV enables my eyes to nicely follow the pillars into the distance.
Great job (of course).

Hello Daniel,

This is such a clear and colourful shot.
Your pov is great and I really like how you have captured the light reflecting in the Thames and girdling the red pillars to help define their contours.

I was in London at the end of last monthe and took a shot from almost the same spot. Sadly, it was a grey morning and the result in no way competes with this!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Many thanks for you warm comments on 'Action ... Steam!'

What a strange photo! The red columns are very sorpressive!
The light you used in this shot is really good and irrealistic!
Good composition.

Impressive colors. Great result. You are the painter of the nights in London.

Judging by the contents of your gallery, you’re a spectacularly talented low-light photographer. This picture caught my eye first – I used to work down the road from this bridge.

Hi Daniel. Special DOF for a fantastic playing of light an colours.

Hello Daniel,

Excellent POV, beautiful colors, great control of light and a nice frame!
Congratulations and TFS

Happy Easter to you and family!
