[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Halloween 2005. This is poached shot, as can clearly be seen. What makes this a little more unusual is that I poached her flash as well! This was, of course, just very lucky, but makes for a ghostly effect as we get the effect of the flash in profile.

Because I was avoiding using the flash, the shutter speed is slow enough (even at ISO 800) for the central figure to be blurred moving, except for where she has been caught by the flash. The figure on the right, showing off his Halloween "scars", was posing for the other camera, so is not overly blurred even where he hasn't been caught by the flash.

PP: However, I found the other figures in the background distracting, so I have progressively blurred and desaturated them by distance with gaussian radii of between 2 and 20 pixels. The three figures in the foreground I have then further sharpened with USM at ~150% of 0.5px.

A very unusual shot, the whole effect is almost like looking at a 3D picture. It all works very well especially as the shot came together with some lucky timing. A great halloween picture (by the way what was the blurred women in the back doing?

Andrew

Spooky, interesting shot! And although blurred, the pinkish thing between the legs in the background is noticeable... what is it? ;))

Much more interesting than the cat, no offense ment, of course! ;)
