Hi
A single 'bloom' from a Globe thistle taken during our recent visit to RSPB Lochwinnoch. They have created a small wildlife garden in front of the visitor centre. It seemed to attract all sorts of insects and things.

"The globe thistle is a fine erect plant for the back of a flower border but it needs to be in full sun. The spectacular globular flowers are an intense deep blue. The deeply divided, narrow, grey-green leaves and the perfectly round, spiky flowerheads make this a really striking plant.

It is attractive to many insects including bees, moths and butterflies and the seeds provide food for finches and other seed-eating birds." http://www.plantpress.com/wildlife/o943-globethistle.php

PP - Cropped, adjusted levels, sharpened, added vignette. Frame and text added. Resized for tl.

Thanks for looking

cheers
Linzi

Hi Linzi, nice bit of work, I tried to take a shot of this plant, some time ago, not as successful as you.

Lovely colours, sharp through out. the background nicely out of focus.

Thanks
Gil

another well presented shot Linzi and well presented

hi linzi,

very good details, particularly on the very centre, good colours and a good central pov and placement.

regards c.d.

I've seen photos of these 'blooms' before Linzi - they look quite magical, as if they are exploding.
Super shot of it - the colours and sharpness are really very good.

Hi Linzi...
Beautiful macro...
Beautiful omposition...

Andro

interesting subject and colours, the focus is well done... now you just have to post process the picture to get more sharpness on the flower and less noise in the background

One of may favourite plants, and a very striking picture. The back lighting and your PP work have added a dynamic feel to the shot, almost a motion blur effect with the flower coming out of the screen. A great effect!
