I took this the morning our ship arrived in Bermuda. There was another gentleman on deck taking photos of the sunrise and as we talked it looked like we might not get a very good shot. The cloud formations were interesting and we discussed how it would be nice to get the sun behind one of the formations, but it didn’t look like it would happen. It started getting a little hazy, so we gave up and went to a different position to catch the island as the sun rose.

After taking some shots of the island, I wandered back to the stern of the ship and noticed that the sun was now right where we wanted it. I ran over and called on the other guy to join me. We took a few shot, pleased that things worked out.

In order to capture some more dramatic colors, I underexposed the shot by 1/3 of a stop in camera. In post-processing I cropped just a sliver to have a true 2x3 aspect ratio. I added 10 pts. contrast and applied an unsharp mask. After resizing the shot for posting to TL, I applied another mild unsharp mask to compensate for quality lost in the resizing process.

Hello Werner, pleased to hear that you shared this beautiful sight with a fellow passenger!
It was worth waiting for.
Good composition with the sun off centre. The colours are certainly true of a fire blazing.
I found your notes interesting particularly about underexposing the shot, in order to improve the quality of colour.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Werner,

Hello Werner

A fantastic sunset photo from the boat & the extra trouble sure was worth it for the result here. Nice of you to alert a fellow photographer. Tfs!

Hello Werner

I never get tired of seeing images by the sea. The never ending canvas that changes is awesome. I like the dramatic composition you have here. now you just need to put this one canvas.

Hi Werner,
A dramatic sky or a blazing one as you titled this presentation.
Splendid gold/reddish cast in the sky adorned with marvelous PP work.
Such cloud formation and a nice reflection in the morning.
A fantastic sunrise, indeed.

Hi Wermer,

I liked the saturation from the sea to the sky. Dramatic sky adding drama, very good thinking in underexposing your shot to prevent over exposure in some areas, a usual problem on sunrise shots...

I love the way you composed your shot giving the 2/3rd for the sky and sun which is the main attraction here...well done!!!

Good morning Werner,

Here is a breathtaking blaze!
Fantastic and interesting image, on which the magic of nature has its unique beauty and never repeat the same scenario.
Beautiful reflection that licks the sea!
A joy for you to capture a nice sunrise.
My compliments for this great job ordered.
warm regards

What a wonderful cloud formation you have captured here, Werner!

Great golden light kissing these fragmented clouds with amazing colors and exposure.
The clarity and POV are well done.
An outstanding work!

Thanks and regards,

I'm pleased that things worked out too Werner :)
Lovely blazing colors on those clouds. The shot is well composed too ... sun placed off-center. Well done.

I know when clouds are on the horizon it's going to be a good sunrise, or sunset! This is so nice Werner. I would almost be tempted to process this in Tungsten, adding more blue to the shot. but either way it's a nice post. Nice sharpness, a straight horizon? Unheard of these days! lol.... well done!

hi Werner this is fantastic the lighting is excellent you have realy captured the monment my friend

MY best regards.

Wow! Indeed it is blazing and I love the fiery color! Good dof with sharp details. Very well done, tfs.

Hi, Werner. Nice dramatic sky and the clouds were just right. Good composition and the underexposure really produced a dramatic contrast. Your notes were helpful. Cheers.

Hi Werner, this is a stunning sunrise. You can pick out the clouds that are at different levels. Sometimes I like to darken my sunrise shots, it brings out a little more colour without having to adjust it later. Fiona
