Good Morning Everyone,

Along the dunes at Crosby, between the grass verges and the sandy beach, grows this most attractive of plants, the sea holly.

Sea-holly is a tall, bluish-green evergreen perennial. Despite its name and appearance, this is unrelated to the more familiar holly and is in fact an umbellifer: one of that large and confusing family which includes the parsleys, carrots and parsnips.

Its simple, misty-blue flowerheads, similar to teasels, nestle in a whorl of spiny bracts and attract bees and butterflies. The waxy leaves have thick margins and lots of spines. Sea-holly is a plant for coastal areas and the rock garden. Its deep roots were once pulped, sugared and sold as sweets. Garden varieties are available.

Hi dear Bev!
Very nice plant...I did not know.
I like your POV with the plant's edge forming a diagonal.
The sharpness is very good and the soft details are beautiful.
Excellent blurred BG. Very good presentation.
Have a nice day.
Ciao! Vanda

I do shoot closeups of plants and objects also concentrate on DOF or sharpness by the selection of lenses, I found this much crisp and sharp with a nice DOF, beautiful cool shot, TFS.

Hi Bev;
I've tried to grow Sea Holly in my garden, but it just isn't that hardy here .. at least not in my yard.
This is great .. I love your diagonal composition. The plants are very sharp and crisp ... great detail. The white edges on the leaves make it look almost as though you've used that Fractalus (sp?) treatment that some use! What an interesting plant - nice grey/blue color on the leaves.
Have a nice day Bev.

Fantastique captage de ces chardons, avec les belle épines, le découpage de feuilles, de fleurs bleues des fleurs passées et en boutons, très très bien placé dans l'image, superbe.

Bravo et amitié

Hello Beverley, another of my favourite plants.
A good composition with the negative space helping to emphasise the sharpness of the prickly leaves.
The colours are natural, the sharp quality of the shot is very good. And I especially like the bokeh with the merest hint of sand and grass.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Merhaba Bev:)
Çok ilginç ve sıradışı bir bitki.
Detaylar ve netlik çok güzel.

Hi Bev
So this is Sea Holly. I would have thought it might have been part of the thistle family...
I like the natural-ness of the photo - the soft light making the plant look real - as if I could touch it. Very nicely done
