[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Helford Village is a pretty timeless little place on the Helford Peninsula in Cornwall. It is reached by a series of small winding lanes surrounded by high hedgerows. The river is tidal and on this occasion the tide was out. It was a dull day and the sky was very flat.

Until I am up and about again I have lots of time to practice with Photoshop so with this particular shot I wanted to add some of the golden tones which I had seen on previous visits.

I am working through some PP exercises in a Photography magazine and this particular one involved adding a gradient to the sky in a separate layer. In the foreground I then used the dodge and burn tools to lighten shadows then boosted individual colours using hue/saturation layers. A frame was then added before the image was sharpened and resized.

Hello Joy, your notes make interesting reading, and you are obviously learning some valuable lessons.Your PP work has worked the trick here; the light is perfect and the colours are eye catching without being exaggerated.
I like this shot with the river [at low tide] still managing to meander through the picture.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi Joy!
Lovely view, taken with splendid , soft light and superb sharpness. Excellent POV and DOF.
Very well done. Copngratulations, also on the PP work.
ciao! Vanda

Hi Joy,
a pleasant view of the English countryside even although the tide has gone out. The colurs are rich but I feel the gradient is a little too strong, perhaps a lower opacity or partly erasing the gradient in the corners where the trees are
cheers
Jack

I like the mood you have captured in this shot, Joy!

Good colors and nice POV with amazing dramatic sky you have caught here.
The light and exposure are very well handled, and colors are natural.
It could be a potential painting work!

Best wishes,
Paras

Ciao Joy, great perspective on lovely village, beautiful composition, excellent clarity, splendid light and wonderful natural colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hi Joy

Keep up the good work with exercising at photoshop, there is much on offer to add and enhance your work with. I like this scene of yours, its a place i've not come across in Cornwall. I like the low tide and the angle you use, the light and/or effect has hilighted much.

I feel you may have used a tad too much gradient to sky as much is over the trees and looses its perspective, its a tricky one as gradient to sky is a useful addition.

Other than that small detail, its a scene i love, impressive light capture. tfs

Hi Joy,
Accurate sharpness in this landscape shot. I like the composition presented. Good PP work, maybe not so good in the sky! I like the considerable depth into the perspective.
The boats resting on the river bed indicates the tide is out!
Well done,

Francis Xavier

Hi Joy, it looks like someone just pulled the plug in the bottom of the river.I like the way the boats are just littering the muddy channel.Fiona

Looks like a very nice place to live! Nicely captured with good dof and nice details. Good lighting and wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.
