The old seaport of Piran lies at the end of the Piran peninsula, which gradually narrows between the bays of Strunjan and Piran. The peninsula reaches Cape Madona, ending with the Šavrini hills.

The meaning of the name Piran: elder scientists support the supposition that the origin could derive from the Celtic word bior-dun, supposed to mean a settlement on the hill, while younger generation advocates the explanation of the Greek word pyr – fire, as the original settlement was primarily used as a lighthouse for vessels sailing to nearby Greek colony Aegida on the site of today town Koper.

The town has preserved the medieval layout with narrow streets and compact houses, which rise in steps from the coastal lowland into the hills and give the whole area a typical Mediterranean look.

I have to disagree with Mesquens and harpya I'm afraid, Tsilla.

Although the image is indeed a very colourful image with good lighting, and one could say you were lucky with the timing to get the splashes of the sea, but I'm afraid all I see is a relativley poorly focussed and heavily pixelated shot.

I don't see sharpness in the frame at all, but i do see evidence of extreme over-sharpening and noise reduction in an attempt to portray a sharper image.
The shot is in dire need of levelling. None of the verticals are vertical, and the water / land line is so obviously tilted, that I'm surprised you failed to notice it.

Sorry Tsilla, but for someone with your experience and point score on the site, you need to do better.

Hi Tsilla,
A nice splash against this concrete structure with a superb colorful BG.
Wonderful multi-colored houses with a very clear breakwater and a nice church standing at the far edge of the shore. A splendid blue sky (pp work) - very good!
Great clarity and attractive color saturation.
My best regards,

Francis Xavier

Bonjour Tsilla,
