Sight from the land side, the exposed part of the Gare do Oriente - the terminal of light trucks - seems the skeleton of a gothic cathedral. It is as if they had disassembled a cathedral, leaving to the sample the forest of broken arcs. Only that, here, the arcs are metallic and not of rock. This association betwen the author of the project - Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, at the tome with 45 years - and the gothic is not fortuitous. In its workmanships in the Europe and America, Calatrava over all uses the metal and the hardened one as "bones" to construct elastic and inspired structures in the nature. But the Gare do Oriente, one of the workmanships most emblematic of the Expo-98 and that it started to be one of the reasons of pride of the modern architecture built in Portugal, is not summarized to the terminal of light trucks. It has a gigantic underground emptiness, with an enormous ship of hardened that it serves the railroad station, the Metro and the automobile parking , where we notice the finishings influences of Gaudi. And, in the directed front to the river, we can observe one complicated net in which the iron if mixture with the glass as if they were fish scales. In this building of Calatrava the coexistenz of the gothico, the animal influence and a rigorous geometry are at sight. And the final result curiously seems one object of high technology

beautiful light, good one, (*_*)

Well spotted here Fernando. All that metalwork looks so complicated and yet it makes a very interesting picture and obviously serves an important purpose. I like the lighting here and the colour of the sky is lovely. Nice capture
