In my photo-journey for the centre of Portugal, after the tiring stage to come up Mountain of Lousã to find the «schist villages» - ancient villages all made of schist in the clientele of Lousã, district of Coimbra -is time to rest a little and enjoy the superb view around and breath the atmosphere of those legendary construtions.

As I said in the note to the previous photo, remain mysterious the reasons that had pushed the first settlers to leave the foot of the mountain and to be fixed in the high one, where the land were difficult to cultivate. Ancient narratives place the origins of these mountainous villages in the field of the fancy and the legend.

As I began to say, is time to stop, to rest, and to listen the silent breath of the ancient stone.
Will you hear it?

Ciao Jose, romantic B&Wcomposition with great perspective, splendid light, very well done, ciao Silvio

provided Grazinha keeps walking away ... well yes!!
ciao josè, yes these ancient stone buildings aree indeed quite intriguing and the lack of people in them puzzling , too. the silence can be felt and yet the murmur of ancient characters may also be heard, if you strain your ears really hard. or maybe it is the wind singing an old song ... or a ghost form the past teeling a story... let us sit against a stonewall and close our eyes...let the sounds of ancient times flow and bring peace to our fatigued hearts
boa noite dear friend , peace be with you and you know who
kisses

Boa noite José!
Sir, yes, sir. Excelente trabalho! Ouço sim, antigas pedras cheias de histórias. Simplesmente soberbo o POV, dando a vista e detalhes da casa e a misteriosa camponesa ao fundo. Perfeito efeito P/B nesta fotografia. Muito boa nitidez e perspectiva, amigo.
Muitos parabéns.

grande abraço.
Marco

Hi Jose,
Yes, I can and I like what I hear! The silent breath of the ancient stones tells me that, when a job is well done like these old architectures, they resist at time and mode and remain the lone true witnesses of History. I hear the efforts of these poeple who built these villages with a minimum of tools and material and I have a great respect for their patience and know-how. These ancient stones have no need to cry to be listened, they keep the soul of the builders, their beauty breathes and time is stopping.

Great work with this conversion. I like the human element in your composition.
My compliments! Annie

Dear Jose,

no matter if you're making photos in color or BW tones, they always have unique atmosphere, that makes me happy everytime you upload new one. Except great pov, my attention made this shadow coming from the left and discrete clouds on "blue-gray" sky. Lady in the distance is making this scene even more special. BEAUTIFUL! As usual! :-)

All the best, dear friend!
David

This stone made wall could tell million and million stories,if we just have "ear" to hear that...But if we include our imagination we can here all those stories ,I think :)
Perfect shot IMHO :))

Hello Jose,
I do like the diminshing scale with the walking man fading out of the scene. The perspective is a delight. There is good tonality and contrast. My best regards...Danilo

Bom dia jose
(Do you see B.O?)
There is a great Humanity in your photo...not just because oF "nice lady" but also for all the composition. This a great tribute (for almost north and up center of Portugal) to those stone villages and to the people who live there. It´s beautiful but hard. To live for the Land and by the Land. This is a great photo because I can feel it and it´s very well done.
What i love more is the composition.Even when it has been hard Humanity resist and kept shinning. You got the Humanity Light.
Have a nice day

Hi Jose,
Wonderful perspective, lovely tones and nice halo effect. I'm sure you can hear it if you listen long enough, and also hear the stories they have to tell.

Keep enjoying your voyage!

Un silenzio che ci racconta tante storie. Hai gestito divinamante la luce. Grande effetto grafico e altrettanto affacinante atmosfera. Grazie amico mio.

The stones, the trees, the earth, they all have their moan, they are all talking, in their own, primordial language, all one has to do, as you very well said, is to take the time to hear them... :)

Hi Jose
The texture shows ruggedness and its easy to go back in time and watch this being built.
I like the addition of the person it gives a good dof.
I wonder why you have a halo all around the roof. Did you do this on purpose?

Hi Jose
Excellent view of the schist house in a great perspective. In my country most traditional houses are like this but the reason for moeving to the higher places was protection from the pirates.
Have a good day

hi Jose',

this photo is indeed an invitation to the traveller (the physical and the psycological) to stop and savour the moment.
I love the high contrast you manage to capture here, there's a lot of black that underlines the stones and an absence of it in the sky, which makes it clear and open.
and the person walking out of the visual field makes the picture more interesting.

Beautifully composed shot Jose.
I love the lines of this structure from right to left.
Perfectly leading the eye towards the person walking away.
Great mood and artistry.

hi Jose

How interesting to see this kind of stone wall that really shows how man first build the dwelling unit, it resembles the stone cave!

What would the inside look like?

I would imagine the house look very simple and perhaps even wish to think the stone wall and roof can be replaced by palm leaves and wood and change the location to Borneo islands off Semporna for the Sea Bajau habitat.

tfs, bill

Odile

Nice WB work, fine a woman included!

Malik & Mary.

Original POV and the B/W gives a mood of a neglegted constructions. The human presence, at a good place in the composition, gives a hope.
Well seen and well done.

Hi Jose,

this silence follows the lady like her shadow does...
Wonderful sepia photo of timeless motive...stones.
They were here before us and they will outlive us...
They've seen a lot and stories that can tell...uf!
Excellently composed with stressed curve that leads the view of the observer thru texturized wall all the way to human presence. It gives the wall a life...a story to tell.
Excellent.

My best,
Jeri
