[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A volcanic eruption in 1957 and 1958 that last 13 months created this new landmass on the west coast of the island of Faial. It enlarged the island with over 2 square kilometer of an extraordinary landscape.

My vacation to the island of Faial in the Azores was partially focused on visiting the natural beauty. It lasted a view evenings to get a reasonable sunset photo. The weather and clouds weren't working with me. Even this evening the light wasn't perfect and I also had to deal with a strong wind and lots of sea spray. Minutes after I made this photo, both lens and filter were covered in a thin film of salt. Getting here wasn't that easy either, but returning back to my car was even worse. A second of unbalance caused me to fall down several feet damaging my tripod. Luckily I fell in-between two rocks and did not hurt myself or worse.

The photo was made prior to the real sunset. Using my tripod, cable release, hot shoe spirit level and a combination of a full and grad ND filter.

Hello Niek

What we wont do to get that perfect shot. Still the moss or algae created a fine image to study. The 17-40 is my favorite lens in my arsenal. I went to your website as was in awe. Nice work. Something for me to aspire too. Looks like you will be returning here to get that perfect shot. Keep them coming

Hi Niek.

You show much mood to the scene, as well as an attractive shoreline with much activity going on with the surf arriving.

stv ;o))

hi.very beautiful pictiur.good luck.

Hi Niek,
Well the photo was well worth the effort.Slow exposure with low light creating the fine spray and wave movement.Nice contrast with the green growth on the rocks.
Great job,
