[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Last week I met up with an old friend and went on a day of photography. We decided to visit a nature reserve in development near the river Rijn.

While strolling around, we can across a herd of Konik Horses. At first we kept our distance to the horses as we weren't sure how they would react. But soon we noticed that they were friendly enough to approach. Actually they approached us as you can see in this photo. I had to act quickly on the focus to assure the head was in full focus. A latter shot even made me switch to close focusing as the horse was closer than 3 meters away from me. Soon after that shot I decided to stand up, as I was afraid he would tip me over.

All in all, it was a great day in nature and a great day catching up with an old friend.

Hi Niek.

A very pleasing capture, the details and softness to this pony is so impressive. I like the fact that he is walking towards you, neat look. The wisps of greeny to the BG is good coupled with the sandy ground. tfs

Good angle Niek, everything that should be in Focus is.Good natural colours, with clear details in its mane & coat,I like the little bit of dust as he is moving toward you,its dark shadow adds to the composition.Horses & Cows I find, tend to be very inquisitive animals.
Regards
Ron

For a good POV a very good depth...
I agree with Ronald when he says "that everything should be in focus is".
A little detail that add, the harmonic range of colors and tones from the horse and the sand.
A very nice photo.
R.

I like the focus you have achieved the moment this horse is approaching to you, Niek!
Great details and well kept sharpness on his facial parts which make this work so special in its appeal.
Good control on light by avoiding any OE on its body, and well kept contrast against a pleasing BG too.

Same kind of situation I confronted as well in the recent past as one a big swan approached me (with anger) and i realized only after the swan was just 2 meters away or so :)

Best regards,
Paras

Hi Niek, when I looked at the picture I felt sadness for the beautifu l horse - it has this loneliness around it ----- looking for a friend !!!
A very well captured scene - with very sharp details and good light.
Kind regards - Monika

Hi Niek

Superb use of a shallow dof with good sharpness and natural looking color. The fg reddish color tint contrasts well against the blue sky in the bg. The strip of green makes a good separator & the tilted horizon works well here. Tfs!
