[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A few months ago I met up with Hans for a two day photo trip in his neck of the woods. On our first day we also visited this little windmill with the name 'De Hommel' (bumblebee).

Both Hans and I already posted a photo of this windmill, but I totally forgot that I had this one waiting in my archive. I was a little late with capturing the lady in the rowing boat because I wanted to have her entering the frame instead of the more central location. I believe Hans posted his version a while ago with the perfect position of the rowing lady. You just can't have it all.

Anyway, this is my version. I cropped it to a more panoramic like version since the FG had no interest and the placement of the windmill needed a more dynamic placement within the composition.

Hello Niek,

So very, very Dutch and even more beautiful by the association! The windmill, the canal and the flat land are the features that I expect.

Your cropping has placed the windmill in a strong position within the frame and, whereas you are unhappy with the position of the rower, I like her there, maybe even a little more to the right, where she makes a natural link, across the frame, between the mill, the moored boat and herself.
The light and the clarity are excellent.
It looks like a perfect day for photography!!

Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

Hi Niek,
A fine postcard of this enchanting place representing the Netherlands.
Excellent sharpness and lighting with a pleasant composition to admire this place.
The man in the canoe is giving life and the sky is just spectacular.
Very natural colors and a neat presentation.
The crop you performed is adequate and fits.
My best regards,

Francis Xavier

Hello Niek,

Bravo à vous pour cette splendide image bien cadrée.

Merci pour la critique faite sur ma photo!!!
Bon Week-end à vous.

Hello Niek,
excellent composition with dramatic clouds. The scenery is so stunning with dense and rich colors. The details and sharpness is so splendid.
The human activity give a further impact on the scenery.
Well presented in good view.

Foozi

Hello Niek,

I think the rower is in the perfect place, the eye is drawn from the windmill, across the blue boat, the rower and through to the distant scene.
I feel if you had cropped the right hand side, the scene would be more 'Rule of thirds'.

Cheers,
Pete.

PS, thanks for your very perceptive critique on the fantail.
Because the bird occupied only the midle 15%, it was extremely under exposed. I did notice the noise, but was reluctant to fix it, it seems to destroy finer detail.
By the way, the fantail was caught just as it took wing, so not strictly a 'flying' shot.

Hi Niek,

The windmill is well placed in the frame. The presence of the lady rowing is giving life to the scenery. The point of view is sending my eyes toward the trees in the background which is giving depth to the composition. The afternoon light is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Niek,

You had both an interesting subject and lovely scenery to work with. I like your choice of crop and positioning of the windmill. I don't think the positioning of the rowing boat is a negative, she still has plenty of room to move into. It's almost impossible to have all of the elements arranged precisely in a shot like this. I also think the puffy clouds are a nice bonus in this, but that's just me ;)

Best regards,
Werner

Beautiful area. Beautiful country. I was up in the Lisse area for the Keukenhof festival a few weeks ago. Hopefully get all those pictures cleaned up here in a while and share them. Great shot. TFS

Bonjour Niek,

Nice picture with many interesting elements. the landscape itself is gorgeous with lovely clouds on beautifull saturated sky. Composition is well balanced the horizon and the windmill well located. The rowboat add a touch of live to the picture. Nice work and TFS.
