Winter in Holland [III]

My third posting of "Winter in Holland 2008" series, again the little village of Spaarndam, you know were the world famous (except in Holland) Hansje Brinker comes from (NOT).

Well I did quite some PP work here. Can you tell me which? :-)

What and how can it be improved?

Hi Hans,
Great winter scene you have captured here. I love the falling snow and the way you composed this shot. Even though the snow is falling I can still see details in the structures. A beautiful winter capture however I have no idea about your PP work. Excellent work Hans.
Regards,
Kevin

I see you did levels, and a little saturation here, a little sharpening, maybe replacing some snow in the FG? Did I win? B-)
This is beautiful Hansie! Nice details, looks BW and then a bit of color! I like it! Be improved? Put ME in the picture! LOL! It's beautiful, I prefer horizontal pics, but this looks nice Vertical! I also think Wide angle works best for landscapes.
B-)
Linda

Nice perspective and good crop!
Wonderful winter atmosphere!
Lovely soft colours!
Best regards!

Hi Hans,

I'm a person that loves winter. Of course in Georgia we have very little snow. I think this scene is just beautiful. There is such a peaceful feeling. I like how you have captured the snow in progress. Nice angle of the buildings to the left. They keep my eye on the scene. I just want to stay there!

Great job! Lisa

I would not be the one to ask how to improve this, if I could get a result like this I would be jumping up and down!! I think it's beautiful, very nice composition! A very nice capture of the snowflakes, and a wonderful mood! TFS

Hi Hans,
Perfect caputure,beautiful composition.
Best regards,
Ralf

hi hansie.
your pic has made me jealous.

I WANT SNOW.

this is a different view of holland for me.
i never link holland with snow. probably due to the endless pics of the canals an windmills that the tourists love.

it's good to see the other side, the real side.

nice one.
Brian

Hi Hans
great capture of the snow falling on the wonderful Dutch village view. I like the fogginess in the air. well composed with the nice and clear street lamp on the white snow (is this the pp work?).
warm greetings from Israel

Something or someone standing by the lampost..............( I think someone ) Sorry Linda, I'm having a go too - just give me time to get involved!!

I think Hans I would crop this to a square format.... Just my view.. Nice shot though, the 1/125 speed just gets the flakes looking right.
Cheers
David

ja, weer een echte hollandse winter. Hij kwam en was weer weg.Ik dus te laat.
Ik vind deze opname goed van compositie en de sneeuw is enigszins doortekend. Want dat moet volgens de geleerden.
Lekkere sfeer.

Groet Ben

I agree with David here... this would look so nice as a square picture!
And I also think you cloned something out that was in the foreground to the right of the lamppost.
Love the atmosphere of this one!

Cheers,
Anneke

Hallo Hans,

groetjes, Marga

I like this picture very much except for the border around it; the white doesn't seem quite right.

I think you did some cloning around the base of the lamppost..the line of the canal wall/pavement to the right of the post doesn't align with that on the left...

I'd maybe like to see a touch more saturation to make the terracotta tile "pop" a wee bit as that would increase the Christmas feel, perhaps. But a nice scene, a good challenge and lovely to see some snow! Very interesting post, Big Fella.

p.s. I agree with Anne, don;t think the white frame is right...

Hi Hans:)
Very nice image of winterized street, I like colours here, snowing is not that impressive but I can imagine same photo with snow on the ground, sun and blue sky:)
Cheers - Tom

Hoi Hans.
Groeten ,Jan

You're going to be thrilled next year when you get back home in this sort of weather. Are you sure you wouldn't rather stay there all over winter?
You pp'd the snow around the lamp. Just read the message threads and still can't work out who won or what the answer is!!!
So, did I win??

Hello Hans.
Very different than the typical view of Holland. Thank you. 1/125 works OK here. When I tilt my screen it is easier to see where you have cloned out some distraction at the bottom right of the post and replaced it with some snow. I'll have to look up what a Minolta Z1 is. According to the focal length it seems to be a point and shoot maybe.
If you had a tripod or steady hand I might try 1/250 just to see how that captures the snow falling. You asked for an idea -- that's the only reason I would suggest an improvement to you.
Thanks for the little game. Karin

Hoi Hans,
Groeten,
Niek

Wow! Impressive photo Hans!

Tranquil moment captured with the snow falling. I can almost hear the silence of the snow flakes falling. :-)

Nice POV, I like that you included the lamp in the FG - adds interest to the composition. Great work! Tfs.

PS. You have alot of impressive photos in your gallery. Congratulations!

Regards,
Martyn
