When we are unable to go and see a real tropical Jungle, we let the Jungle come to us.

Photo made last June 19, in the botanical garden of the Blijdorp Zoo in Rotterdam.
Nice conditions..plants and trough the glas construction .. natural lights coming in.

I have no idea what these floating leaves are called..
but they had the size of more than a meter/yard in diameter.

Walking there..inhaling the nice atmosphere ..one realy feels in the jungle.

I hope our TL friends from Asia.. like Tjutjut, can tell if it indeed looks real.

Thanks for popping in folks and have a good weekend

John T

I feel that God is behind every flower and every tree in the woods.
He is behind every mountain rock and every foam-crested wave in the sea.

We can expect to see Tarzan any minute here John. Is it real you ask?
To me we are here in the heart of the Amazonas in Brazil.
How real can you get ! Fantastic, have to go and see one day with the kids and take the camera.
Knufeltjes en fijn weekend jullie twee.

Excellent capture of these geant water lilies. I like imagine the birds coming to drink the rain into these plates!
Very beautiful colors, light and presentation! Bravo! Have a nice weekend! Annie

Bonsoir John, my friend,
Impressive, size of these sheets of water lilies. Beautiful natural luminosity, original POV with height of the ground, well done.

Hi John

These look like Amazonia lilies. I've seen them in Thailand, & they're native to South America. Good sharpness & repetiiton. Tfs & have a good weekend.

Hello Johnny,

This is really nice. Those are Giant water lily plats. Infact I've picture of the water lily of the same with me from St. Louis botanical garden.

Nice fresh colors. Feels like summer (in this cold here).
Nice POV and composition. TFS

Hello John,
Since it is so cold and crisp in Maryland today (mid-forties farenheit), I'm very much enjoying this shot of these gigantic water lilies, which must require warmth and humidity. This place is ripe for the imagination as well as the camera. This is where babies come from, right? You must just pick them right from the blossoms after they open.
Very nice composition, natural framing, and nice detail.
All the best,

I Had to re read the notes John because I found it a bit blurry but then I noticed that it was taken through the glass. Very well done with that and low ight taken into consideration. Good colour and well composed. They are an amazing plant. One of the New Zealanders (Eosnut) had a photo of these a while back. TFS,

Many thanks for your comment on ‘A hand held macro’

Hi John,
So this is the famous Holland rain forest! Good composition.

Isn't that weird how they fold up their leaves, I guess to collect water, and keep themselves from burning up, because so much surface faces the sun! Very nice shot John!

Hallo John
Very beautiful tropical Jungle and strond composition.Very good detail and colors.Well done my friend.TFS.
cok güzel john.

Hi John,
Very nice composition.Great POV, sharp,light and details.TFS.

Hello John,
Just like what Chris said, I believe these are the foliages of water lilies. Rather huge, very attractive and with circular shape they look like a rice cake container. It does look like Rotterdam has a large and beautiful Botanical Garden. Wash D.C. has a good one also very close to the Capitol Building but not very big. Thank you for commenting on 'Mather Gorge' and for providing the link. Best regards, Danilo

Hoi John,
Prachtige foto man! Great colours, not easy to capture. I like your change from frame; nice white with more smaller text! Anyway a superb posting my friend!

J ;)

Hi Bro, this is very well done and composed on those lilies! They are so huge!
Well done and composed and very sharp.
Unfortunately, we don't have a botanical garden here. It's the only thing missing.
Thx for sharing!

sis :)
ps: Thx for the great review on: "Crawling Tree" :)

Fantastic water-lilies, I love these big plates so much. Very impressive.
Good shot, John, a place I have to visit at my next holidays in Holland. Thanks and greetings

An excellent and interesting picture John. These are really impressive plants and you have displayed their unusual and dramaic appearance very well here. Nice colours and good depth of field.
Best wishes

Hallo John
Mooie vlakverdeling en mooi van kleur.
Gr Jos

Hi John, Thor is one of my boyhood heros, so nice to see you quoting him. Good scene of these tropical plants. TFS. Murray.

Hi John,

It seems to be a very interesting botanical garden, with rare species! I like the nicely balanced lighting, the great DOF, sharpness and natural colors. Your presentation frame simple and lovely.

Hi John
Somehow, despite the artificial setting, you've really captured the primal mood here - the jungles of Rotterdam! The way the light plays on the lilies in the centre of the photo is quite striking. Lovely composition too.

Hi John, they look so strange!
You framed them excellent with this very nice night.

Magnífica imagen con unos detalles precisos.
Buen encuadre y colores muy bien saturados.
Un saludo, JL.

Hi John

Nice natural plant in their habitat.... I like it

Interesting pov. good details and color/ tones whatever they are called they definately make an eyecatching pic! TFs

Hi John,
What a beautiful photo, the colors and tones are for sure jungle like! The spheres look like big fancy casserole dishes:o) TFS

Hi John,

How can I missed this one . .
Yes, it looks real . . I went to jungle few years back and found this kind of wild lily leaves . .
Usually lots of small frogs stay on top of it, and as natural, small snakes are around it . .
Excellent composition to present it . .
