[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I am dedicating this photo to David because I know he loves the lens distortion of the Sigma 10-20 lens. For this photo I positioned the camera close to the ground and aimed it high toward the sky. The effect of the distorion can be well seen on the trees. David, I hope you can enjoy this photo.

This is actually a place I visited more then two years ago when I was still trying to figure out what photography was actually about. I think back then my camera was still in full auto mode and aperture was something I didn´t understand. Anyway, this is the photo I made back then.

As for the exposure on this photo. I do realize that the shaded snow is one stop too dark. I didn´t want to use a grad ND filter since that would have made some of the snowy areas in the twigs and branches too dark. I prefer to have the highlights in good conditions and care less about the shaded areas.

Wonderful light and blue tones. Good POV and the 10-20 lens gives a nice perspective.
Best regards

Hello Niek!
I really love winter picture!
Beautiful winter scene with great point of view!
Wonderful colours and light!
All the best!

Hello Niek,

It is hard to recognise this as the same building that you took previously. I would call this a little more sophisticated!
I have never used the lens of which you speak but like its effects.
Even if taken with an undistorting lens, I feel your photograph would still have been stunning. The composition, the sharpness and the magical effect of the snow are still there.

Have a great w/e,
Bev :-)

Ah yes - my kind of distortion!!!!! Love this shot, you can really see the lens pulling everything into the scene.. Very sharp, well exposed considering the highlight/shadow dilemma!!

A wonderful landscape Niek..

Gave winterplaat!

Hi Niek,
A wonderful winterscene with nice use of your wide lens.
Nice colors and perspective.
Have a nice weekend.

Hi Niek
It's a beautiful scenic photo. Light is so great.
I have not owned a wide lens yet because I was warned that it is not easy to take good pictures for beginer like me. Looking at this photo I just wanted to buy a wide lens.

Hello Niek

A marvellous winterscape, with the predominant blue & white colours making a perfect combination. Good sharpness & framing. Tfs!

Perfecte winterse plaat Niek!

Hello Niek - The wide angle low perspective effect is called keystoning in English. Beautiful winter composition and even though you consider the snow too dark, I think that its shade adds to the overall mood of the shot. Excellent note, too.

Love this shot Niek - and especially the distortion, which David does so well, so often. My favorite thing here though is the icy blue color in the sky, and the bright tree tops - it really takes your eye into the center of the shot. Fantastic wintery scene. Europe is sure getting a taste of winter this year:)

Bonsoir Niek

Hello Niek,
You had the same weather taking this shot when I had in last day 2009. You used very short lens and got very beautiful winter view where sunrays scarcely reach the tops of the trees.
Regards, Pawel

Nice work! The wide lens has delivered a stunning scene - and I must say I'm another fan of the distortion. It creates such a feeling of space and depth. The light and shadow here are beautifully captured, too.
Though I don't like signatures-in-frames, this is subtle enough to work.

Hello Niek,

Excellent winter landscape, the beautifull house and the details of the trees. Wonderfull POV and DOF, very nice lighting and brightness.
The sharpness and the perspective are great.
Have a good sunday.

Hallo Niek,

Hi Niek,
Beautiful presentation and composition of this winter scene,
Excellent POV. DOF. with great colors and light,
Nice blue tone and contrat,
very well done.

Hi Niek,
this photo makes me feel so very small! Like en elf in the woods looking at the house and wanting to go into its warmth! Its lovely, TFS

Hi Niek

Well exposed shot considering over hanging trees, the shadows look fine to me and may have looked a bit false if too bright.
Like the distortion from the wide angle.

Regards Derek

Hi Niek,
This kind of picture could give the taste of winter to anyone who says that this season isn't his cup of tea!
What an effective and beautiful use of the wide angle. This gives a great dynamism and sense of space at the photo. The blue and luminous sky behind these frozen branches gives me the feeling that I assist at an exceptionnal moment! Bravo! Annie
