Kalkara is located on the eastern coast of Malta and forms part of the inner harbour area of the Grand Harbour. It occupies the area around Kalkara Creek and extends to both valley sides around the creek. Rinella Bay, the only sandy beach in the Grand Harbour, is found at the mouth of the Rinella valley. Kalkara is one of the few localities within the Grand Harbour area which still has relatively large open spaces which naturally divide it from other towns and villages. The town is bordered by the city of Birgu, and the towns of Haz-Zabbar and ix-Xghajra.

Kalkara is known for the building of the local traditional boats, known as the Maltese dgħajsa and for their oarsmen (barklori). The Kalkariżi still take part in the traditional national regattas held on the 8th of September and on the 31st of March with their own constructed boats.

This is a typical street in Kalkara with the silver Dome of the Parish Church dedicated to St. Joseph at the far end and the typical two storey village houses with so many colorful apertures.

Hi Francis.

I do lik eseeing architecture of places around the globe presented like this. You have a pleasing line and angle through this street showing clearly the stonework balconys and bay type windows. The natural rustic tones of the stone in contrast with the hints of painted red adds much appeal here, very well seen and presented Francis. TFS

Bom dia Francis,

Superb sharpness & good use of diminishing linear perspective & vanishing point in the composition. I like the warm color tones of honey yellow & red. Good light contrasts & the domed building in th bg makes a superb focal point. Tfs!

Very nice capture of this narrow street! So quaint but can cars navigate those streets? Great lighting and good details. Wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

Hi Francis,
No doubt Malta has beautiful places and you have the skill to record beautifully, it is well composed exposed and presented, TFS.

What a wonderful shot from marvelous architecture where I like the repetitive pattern of the partially covered balconies, Francis!

Great details and nice HDR treatment to the scene.
The colors are natural and light is well balanced too.
Good work!

Thanks and regards,

I love your portait framing of these buildings that creates the since of height and the narrowness of the street. Great POV revealing the colors and fine details shown to great effect by your HDR PP.
