[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
As you walk the relatively short distance from Piazza San Marco to Rialto you might stumble across Venice's Grande Canal sooner than anticipated, and if you, as I did, find yourself on the southern side of the Rialto Bridge, then you will see this magnificent piece of architecture before you. At first, it was everything I expected to see, but the closer you got to the Bridge the more you realised that even Venice's finest buildings and structures are not immune to modern-day vandalism. Many of the wooden shutters and parts of marble stone are covered in paint graphitti. So there are two options: i) keep your distance when photgraphing the objects so the graphitti doesn't show, or ii) Photoshop them out.
For this shot, I kept my distance.
Some PP work: In CS5, the RAW image was converted into two exposures to bring out the detail in the shaded areas and the sky. I also used a graduated filter to darken the upper part of the sky. Some cropping and a black border to finish.
Hope you like it.

Hello Dai

I walked across 4 bridges in Wuxi today. Wuxi is just west of Suzhou in China, which Marco Polo visited & described as the most beautiful city he had ever seen. He must have been really taken by all the bridges & canals, & took the ideas back to Italy. I am so glad he did! Tfs!

lá Dai

Hi Dai,
A painting-like image of the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge of Venice.
It's always a splendor to capture a photo in Venice.
This is outstanding from such a low POV, perhaps from a gondola.
Beautiful colors and ambient.
My best regards,

Francis Xavier

Hi Dai...beautiful shot of the Grand Canal. You captured the scene perfectly with nice tones and sharpness. Well done.

A high quality work where a famous bridge is beautifully caught with amazing light, Dai!

Good focus and nice contrast within the scene.
The POV and DOF are well done, and colors are natural.
A nice show of daily-life is well depicted in here too.

Good work!

Kind regards,
