'Like' this if you've been to Casa di Giulietta and seen Juliet's Balcony in Verona, Italy! Supposedly the location of the famous balcony love scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the house attracts romantic pilgrims from all over the world, with the tiny courtyard normally packed with lovestruck teenagers photographing each other on the famous balcony. In fact, the house has no connection with Shakespeare's fictional characters - although the house is old, the balcony was added in 1936 and declared to be "Juliet's house" to attract tourists. You can visit the house itself which contains a sparse collection of Renaissance frescos rescued from other demolished palaces, and the bed from Zeffirelli's 1968 movie, but not a lot more. The balcony overlooks a tiny courtyard containing a statue of Juliet, and there is an unbelievable amount of graffiti and general scrawling on the walls, floor and seats, as there is a tradition of writing love messages to Juliet, with visitors leaving notes, trinkets and bits of chewing gum fashioned into love hearts.

This young couple are performing their faith in front of a whole crowd of spectators beneath the balcony. "I love you", "So do I" etc. etc.....and they lived happily ever after....

PP work: adapted HDR treatment to this single shot and cloned a third person in the balcony!

Hi Francis.

Epic levels of detail captured here, the fact that most of the plaster has fallen off gives rise to the different textures and the chance to show depth of detail. Amazing colours due to the direction and amount of light, I like the angle used up and under the balcony, the title and image are aptled put, neat job. tfs

Hi Francis,
yes, I have been here. As you say, this location has absolutely nothing to do with Shakespear's R&J. Infact, they say that the actual incidents on which the story is very loosely based happened in Sienna and not in Verona.

Nice capture of the "old" house and the "The balcony".

Hi Francis

Always good to have willing models :-)
Nice treatment with hdr ie it looks natural. I have always imagined the balcony a little more romantically than this stonework but then some things are best left to the imagination :-)
