The East Doors of the Baptistry in Florence.

"Lorenzo Ghiberti's famous bronze Baptistry doors were commissioned in 1401 to mark the city's deliverance from the plague.
Ghiberti was chosen to make a new set of doors after a competition that involved seven leading artists, including Donatello,Jacopo della Quercia and Brunelleschi. The trial panels by Ghiberti and Brunelleschi are so different from Florentine Gothic art of the time, notably in the use of perspective and individuality of figures, that they are often regarded as the first works of the Renaissance."

"Michelangelo enthusiastically dubbed the doors as 'The Gate of Paradise.'The original ten relief panels showing scriptural subjects are now exhibited in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, these on the doors are copies!"
[DK Eye witness guide to Italy.]

There were so many people all trying to look at the panels and to take shots, that it was almost impossible to get a shot of the entire doors in all their beauty. So I had to crop the picture to make the most of what I had taken.

Top left panel is ---Adam and Eve are expelled from Eden.
Top right---Cain murders his brother Abel.
Lower left---The Drunkenness of Noah and his sacrifice.
Lower right---Abraham and the Sacrifice of Isaac.

Thanks for looking.

Hi, Jean. A nice entry for the theme. Good details, sharpness and I had the same problem looking at it there are so many visitors in summer. Well composed and presented. Cheers.

Hi Jean,
This door is really good choice for the theme of the week. It has a lot of details and so unique. We can see all the details of relief.
I wish I had a nice picture of this door also, but at that time I was taking a picture unconsciously :)

We both chose Italy for our doors.
I love the work thats gone into the making of this.
I think the subtle 3D of the scene suits the colours and framing so well.
Very good notes to describe the stories.
