When you stand on one of the terraces that overlook the city of Florence, the most striking thing is how the Florence Cathedral,Santa Maria del Fiore, stands so tall and proud from all the surrounding buildings.

When you are at street level, it is hard to create this effect. It is an awe inspiring building! And once seen for real, you are never likely to forget it.

The Dome was designed and built under the guidance of Filippo Brunelleschi [1377-1446].His success can be attributed to no small degree to his technical and mathematical genius.More than 4 million bricks were used in its construction.

[If you want to discover more, there are excellent reference books about this genius of a man.]

It was a hazy day, hence the indistinct bg, but in a way it does help to make the cathedral stand out even more.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Jean.

Beautiful soft tones to the roof tiles and skyline. I can imagine the catheral insides as being something special, the round windows are very powerful. I like the greenery as framing, and the haze to the sky giving depth and intrigue

Hi Jean,
The dominant proud Duomo of Florence is well captured in this shot comparing with the buildings around. Fine light and a perfect crop. I like the soft colors of this marbled structure.
A very sharp and neat image.
Regards,

Francis Xavier

Hi Jean,
A great shot of the Florence Cathedral. I have been fortunate to have visited this place, it is indeed a awe inspiring building. They say that Michelangelo got his inspiration for St. Paul in Rome from this one. Very good shot.

Hi, Jean. Nice postcard from Florence. Great POV, well composed to get the details of the Cathedral. Excellent sharpness, exposure, colors and a informative note. Cheers.

Bom dia Jean,
That's a masterwork with this soft misty light. The Cathedral pops out proudly as you said.
Love it as a favorite.
