Monterosso al Mare is the most western town of the Cinque Terre. The village is protected by hills covered with vineyard and olive groves. Monterosso has beautiful beaches, steep rugged cliffs and crystalline waters.
The Aurora tower, on the hill of San Cristoforo, divides the old medieval hamlet, from the new part of the village, developed along the Fegina beach. Old Monterosso is dominated by the ruins of the castle and characterized by typical tower-houses crossed by the "carruggi", narrow medieval streets.
In the church of San Francesco are conserved important works of art as the Crucifixion, attributed to Van Dyck. In the XVI century Monterosso was defended by thirteen towers. Today only remains the three towers of the castle, the medieval tower converted into San Giovanni church bell tower and the Aurora tower.
The beach of Monterosso is the biggest of the Cinque Terre and therefore the town has a strong tourist vocation.

My day visit to this particular place was highlighted by a terrible storm. We arrived here by boat, thank heavens, we were not drowned and returned back by train.

Hi Francis.

Am glad you got back safely from this inpending storm.

You have chosen such a good angle here, the line of orange beach shaders hilight the shape of the beach and incoming waves. Light exposure and amount to the cliff, buildings ans rock to the left balance well with the backdrop of hazy storm-like conditions. Neat work, tfs

stv ;o))

Hi Francis, those waters certainly do not look friendly.I like the low cloud cover and the froth from the waves on the beach. Fiona

Bonjour Francis Xavier,
Best regards
Odile

I can hear the roar of the ocean, I hope they remove those umbrellas before the storm arrive. I like your pov and nice catch of some light against the dark clouds of the storm. Very well done, tfs.

Boa tarde Francis,
Of great strength and drama this photo of a wild moment of Monterosso al Mare to be a quiet place of leisure after the umbrellas that stretch along the beach.
Great take.

Hi Francis!
Spectacular shot, which shows us a dramatic time.
Wonderful vibrant colors and great contrast.
Excellent POV.
I'm sorry for your bad adventure. I hope you will not have a bad memory of this lovely place.:)
Congratulations on this accurate composition.
Ciao! Vanda

Hello Francis, a dramatic scene! Not the ideal holiday but you were able to take some good shots no doubt; this one gives us the full effect of the storm.
The angry colours of the clouds over the sea and the coast are quite unusual.
Excellent PoV showing us the rocky hillside and all the parasols neatly folded.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

The stormy skies add an element of atmosphere that enhances your well chosen pov. It looks a beautiful place to visit. TFS
regards
David

Sorry missed this fantastic work!
I like the immense mood you have caught in this scenic location, Francis!

The sea waves look dangerous and great windy conditions persisting at the time you took the shot are well captured.
Good management of light and exposure, showing natural colors of waters and well kept contrast against the hill.
Nice view of the daily life scene too!

How was weather during your recent holidays to Italy?

Thanks for sharing.

Best regards,
Paras

This is such a beautiful place and your composition and HDR treatment as well as the wonderful lighting due to the stormy weather shows it in a unique way. You have captured the movement of the rough sea very well and I love all the different tones of blue and green in the sea and sky. Magical shot, it looks like a painting.

Joy
