Another dip into last month's archives. On my second trip to Rome last month I made it to the top of the cupola of St Peter's Basilica. What a staggeringly impressive building - and what a climb, about 360 steps up a very narrow and leaning stairwell!!!! But the view over VC and Rome is well worth the sweat and pumping heart...

RAW, cropped, straightened and a little dodging and burning - the light was difficult as it was into the camera lens. But: Enjoy the view ;-)

1/40sec at f8 and ISO100, 20mm focal length.

Wow David
I must say that you will be choosen as one favourite of mine to take photos in this place. You had a great sense of perspective and of grandiosety.
It is so incredible this place...the architecture, harmony lines are superb. The sharpness, the colors are amazing. At least the light...soft and warm.
A superb panoramis. Congratulations. One of the best photos I have seen from Vatican.
Um abrašo

Wow, David, what a view!
One day ... I'll get there!
Your pov works well with the statues grabbing the f/g as they browse the circular forum and its street, leading on into the distance.
There is an amazing amount of detail of this ancient city, creating a busy atmosphere.

Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

What a view, and portratyed beautifully in the image upload.

Very well composed, and the perspective thrown by the POV and wide angle lens adds real depth and distance.
I'm impressed with the amount of detail the lens has produced, especially in the distant areas.
You've handled the lighting difficulties very well here, DAvid.

I took a look at the workshop, which I also like, especially the contrast adjustment which has removed a lot of the haze in the distance, but not I'm so sure about the framing on the WS losing the details to the horizon.

An impressive sight, coupled with an impressive piece of photography,

HI David,
An awesome postcard of the Vatican City from the height of the Basilica.
Very sharp capture with perfect color tones and a considerable DOF with perfect PP work.
Nice dodging and burning activity in this splendid result.
Well done,

Fantastic David!! I agree with Teressa...it is one of the best picture
showing this landscape!
Sharpness and details are impressive!. Lovely light.
I don't absolutely agree with the format choosen by Pozaru...one of the great things is the possibility to see the horizon!
Ciao! Vanda

Hi David,

What a fantastic view. Nice symmetry and excellent DOF. A great shot of this historical architecture. I was first going to ask if you were flying under the radar for this ;)

Best regards,

HI David...nice shot...well balanced with great detail and perfect exposure...nice work.

This is a wonderful overview of the Cupola of Peter Basilica, DAvid!

You managed the light so nicely and the colors look so natural and splendid here.
The sharpness and POV are very well chosen, and clarity is amazing.
The presence of many people gives the idea of the scale within the shot.
Great architecture and perfect artwork, is depicted here.

Have a nice weekend.

Best regards,

Hi David.
Superb DOF with beauitful balanced framing while your POV is amazing, another beauitful Ariel photography.
Best regards

The detail and the quality here is stunning David! Superb sharpness and details. Nothing was lost in the reduction or compression of the file! LOVE the warm colors here!

Hi David,
You finally managed to get to the top? :-)
Not unique, but well captured the view of St. Peters dome. Sharpness is great, like the people on the Peter's square. Great stuff my friend.

N.B. Was that climb exhausting or not?

Hi David,

You were on the top on the good moment, where the light is not too high and give a nice presence at each element. I like also the perfect sharpness and the warm colours.
Kind regards

Bonjour David
This view is classical and well known at 1st sight, but using a 10-20mm , (certainly at 20mm?)you gave more space on each side so that your shot doesn't give the impression to be troncated but on the contrary enlarges the sight and emphasizes the quasi symetric composition of the architecture. The other thing which distinguishes this picture is its beautiful morning light and the sharpness of the whole Vatican City.
Nice place , nice shot

Wow! Incredible and impressive view. Worth the climb. Love the symmetrical view, and the detail in the buildings and this fantastic city far off into the distance. Great one David.
Hope you are okay ... read that you are off work for a good long while. Take good care.
P.S. I do like Vlad's WS too.

Sorry for your predicament. This shot is of outstanding and surpassing qualiy.Light, colors and detail perfect.Wishing you the best,Otto.
