Rocca Calascio
Rocca Calascio
The first group was made up of the only tower of the Norman period, probably built around 1000 and was used as a watchtower.
Come into possession of the Piccolomini family was expanded with the addition of four cylindrical towers connected by a wall.
In 1579 the Medici family bought for 106,000 ducats, the castle and the nearby village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio in order to extend their possessions to exploit the wool trade
The castle overlooks the valley of Tiryns and Navelli plateau, a short distance from the plain of Campo Imperatore, is situated on a ridge at 1,460 meters above sea level, in a dominant position.
The village below, a long uninhabited, it makes up with a single body fortified

A ruin fortress but its evident that in its day this looks like it was quite formidable to attact and take.
Wonderous grdient to the sky.

An interesting ruin Silvio. Quite an unusual style.
The vertical presentation enables us to walk up the track to the ruins, and once there to take in the view from the high PoV.
Excellent DoF.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hi,magnificent ruin!The atmosphere is so clear,perfect for a watch tower.Fine detail and color,friendly regards,Otto.

Hi Silvio,

The distance between the castle and the horizon is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colours of the architecture of the castle. It is clear and sharp. The good luminosity is giving nice tints to the colours. Have a nice day.
