Donegal Castle:- situated right in the centre of Donegal town. For most of the last two centuries, the majority of the buildings lay in ruins, thankfully the castle was fully restored in the late 1990's.

Built in 1474,it consists of a rectangular keep with a later Jacobean style wing.Built on a bend by the River Eske, it is surrounded by a 17th century wall.

The castle was the stronghold of the O'Donnell clan, one of the most powerful Gaelic families in Ireland from the 5th to the 16th centuries.

Thank goodness that there are groups of people who are prepared to restore these old buildings for posterity.

I was particularly interested in the rectangular additions to the top of the castle, having never seen anything like these before.
Thanks for looking.

Interesting architectural design--looks like a giant with big ears, but of solid construction. Good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

Its as if an artist has added the greens in perfect positions to highlight the scene.
Your sky suits the colour of the stonework.
Yes, I agree how pleasing it is to have folk restore these treasures for us all to appreciate.

Hello Jean,

Excellent architecture view of the castle, I like very much the color of the stone. POV and frame are perfect for the composition, light and color are good in control.
TFS.
Have a good day.
