This is Moville, a town and coastal resort on the Inishowen Peninsula on the north coast of County Donegal.

During the 2nd half of the 19th century, it was a significant point of embarkation for many travellers, especially emigrants, to Canada and the United States of America.
It retains a small fishing harbour but the important commercial port is Greencastle which is only a few miles away.

Can you imagine coming here on the first part of your journey and travelling across the Atlantic Ocean to a new country?

The fare was £2 and you had to take all your food with you!The voyage could take up to 20 weeks.

Thanks for looking.

Ciao Jean, great view of lovely place, fantastic sky, wonderful colors and splendid light, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

This port and harbor look so ordinary to be a starting point for a long and hazardous journey to a foreign land. One have to have a strong determination to make the trip. Nice capture of this historic harbor and look so calm. Good details and wonderful colors. Well done, tfs.

Wonderful positioning for this one Jean, the distant colours of the boats make for such a superb feel and sight.
The addition of this stone wall also adds to the appeal and depth.

stv ;o))

Hi Jean,
Clever low angle and good use of depth, a true professional take. Love the way the jetty leads one out to the ships and then beyond.

Hi Jean, very nice photo and interesting bit of irish History to go with it.
