This is a view from our balcony in the Hotel Bavaria in Berchtesgaden. The mountain in the background is the Watzmann, which is the third highest mountain in Germany. The Bahnhof is the red-roofed structure on the right. Berchtesgaden, through no fault of its own, has a slightly sordid past in the 20th century, due to the fact that the nearby Obersalzberg became a popular retreat for the upper echelon of the Third Reich. In fact, Allied leadership was afraid that it would be the center of the 'Mountain Redoubt' of fanatical Nazis after the war. Actually, Berchtesgaden was nothing more than a quaint little Bavarian town, which it remains today.

The Hotel Bavaria, like other German hotels in which we stayed, provides an amazing free breakfast - something American travelers are not used to. Various breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, fruit, etc. are enough to fill you up for the whole day! This was good, because walking in the Alps burns up a lot of calories! This first day was sunny and warm, but the next day was cold and rainy - which meant for us it was laundry day.

This photo was taken with my 6MP Kodak P&S camera. I cropped off the distracting bottom of the picture on iPhoto. Then I burned in the sky and brightened up the green background with Picasa. After that, I played around with the software that came with my HP printer/scanner and used the noise filter on it to eliminate some of the noise in the sky and generally smooth out the cropped image.

Hi Gilbert,

The colors are striking, especially the clouds. I like how the stream and central road tend to split the compositon leading to the mountain. Very scenic, TFS.

Best regards,

I really like this look Gilbert! It looks more like art to me. PP work can be addictive. You have created an even different look than I've seen before with the tools that you've mentioned. The colors are amazing! It's another one of my favorites.

Ciao Gilbert

Nice your panoranic, the city at the foot of
mountain has beautiful details and the horizon
mountain rejoices with soft pink clouds.

Hello Gilbert, very picturesque place, good compo, very good pp work and an overall interresting shot. Good note too.

Hoi Gilbert,
Again a good note with a good photo (.... or vice versa).
Amazing quality for such a simple camera. Okay, I do have a simple camera too, but compared with expensive cameras the quality is not bad at all !
The landscape is beautiful; a great view from your hotel. The sky is burned out, which is normal for compact camera's, but I like the rest of the image. Good exposure and colors.

dear Gilbert,
this your picture looks like beautiful miniature model garden, maybe the fine railway and road especially make me feel so,
anyway dense colors are impressive in this peaceful scene,
natural mountains and forest, and human constructions are matching well in it,
thank you,

Hi Gilbert

Good choice of a wide angled format with excellent colour & saturation. Reasonable sharpness & nice aerial perspective. Tfs!

Superbe vue, ces belles maison colorées avec la montange en fond et ces nuages qui couronnent le sommet, merveilleu effet de coupole blanche.

Bravo et amitié
